The Mules, coached brilliantly by lVlr. Bill Samarin, went undefeated through their first seven games before losing to Los Angeles High in the first round of the City playoffs. Wilson had entered the playoffs for the first time, thanks to a lucky draw which sent the Mules to the finals as the North- ern League's runner-up. Only ties with Franklin, 0-0, and loop titlist Lincoln, 13-13, kept the Wilsonites from their first undisputed league grid championship. The team's brilliance was attested by the selection of five Nlules on the all-league team and two on the All-City team. Named All-Northern were Chuck Sugar ILeogue Player of the Yearl and Kermit Francis, backs: Tom Bennett, end: Rich Pulcifer, tackle: and Dick Duran, second team center.
