BACK ROW: Moles, Miller, Rutherford, Kotick, Otto, Brown, Baker, GIRLS' LEAGUE BOARD IWINTERI-Barbara Miller Jo ce St C All Girls' League organizations ioined forces in hostessing the area convention held at Wilson the first semester, under Miss Bonaro, sponsor, and Joann Siminow, president. The B-7 Mother-Daughter Party with its St. Valentine's Day theme was the first activity of the Girls League. Selecting the top Girls of the Grade, and the unusual decorations and plans for the Woman's World backwards dance were pleasant chores of the league. On Cotton Day May 6, Irene Rodriguez and Bill Jones were crowned the Cotton Couple, Eileen Haddad and Bob Smitson were named Miss and Mr. Cotton. The Girls League ended its busy year with the sponsorship of its installation assembly and luncheon. An auxiliary of the Girls'League is the active organization, the Girls' League Commission. The G.L.C., composed of outstanding 9th and I0th grade girls, furnished monitors for the doors and buildings during brunch and lunch. Darlene Cravea and Shauna Jalowitz, presidents, with Mrs. Giersbach, their spon- sor, rewarded the girls with lovely buffet luncheons featuring beautiful table decor- ations. Outstanding girls of the homerooms are invited to be members of Edells, an organi- zation connected with the Girls' League. Two members from each homeroom make up the Advisory Board, which is headed by the boys' vice presidents. In this way problems of the students can be brought before the Board and solved more easily. Many prob- lems were brought up this year and most were solved or explained. The Thanksgiving Turkey Trot was sponsored by the Winter Advisory Board, headed by Charles Cook, while the Summer Board, led by Rollie Slagle, launched the third annual Motorcade suc- cessfully. Co-operating with the senior high cabinet in re-organizing the iunior student government was the most important work of the Junior Service Homeroom. Keeper of the grounds in the iunior area, it also guarded the cafe- teria during lunch period. Attendance moni- tors in the junior grades come from Junior Service. Wilson's winning Cotton Couple for Cotton Day this year were Bill Jones and lrene Rodriquez. This activity was sponsored by the Girls' League A The Student Body takes a serious attitude when voting for Student Government officers A The cabinet-sponsored Christmas formal dance was fun for everyone. Health Representatives from the various homerooms promoted interest in good health by publicizing the importance of diet and the evils of not enough sleep to a clear complexion and good teeth. The commis- sion, under Mrs. Irvine, sponsor, and Eunice Agulian and Florence Mogami, winter and summer commissioners, conducted the Smile Week contest and a cafeterio poster cam- paign for better diet.
