Coach Metchikoff, new this year from Roosevelt, brought with him new football tactics. Paul Clark is stopped short by two Poly tacklers. '53'Clark, Durbin, and Carey nab a plunging Poly back with teamwork. '1fi 'Outa our way! -Rudy Vizcarra and Alan Page. The Mule pigskinners fought through a tough schedule in '49, and showed up nicely until superior manpower and the ever-present breaks of the game took their toll. The season's initial encounter saw the boys going down to defeat to John Muir, 12-6, in a trial tilt. The Mules' game, highlighted by Paul Clark's brilliant passing, had a touchdown pass from Clark to Gary Bohnsen called back. This would have been the tying, if not winning, score. '9fThe opening Northern League fracas saw Wilson pitted against the Poly Parrots. The Mules completely outclassed the Parrots for the first half, and at half time the score read Wilson-6, Poly-0, Rudy Viscarra having run 60 yards to pay dirt. Wilson again was knocking at the door on Poly's M-yard line when the gun sounded. After intermission, the Mules found trouble going through Poly's massive line and went to the air, which proved to be disastrous. Poly intercepted three passes, two of which were run back for touchdowns. Wilson couldn't get going and went down to defeat, 19-6. fYThe following Friday was Wilson's time to howl, for they knocked the Marshall Lawyers on their collective ear to the tune of 19-'l3, making the fourth year in a row that the Birristers have been trampled under Mule hoofs. Highlights of the game were the running of Rudy Viscarra and Joe

The greatest play of the day saw Paul Clark heave a fifty yeard pass to Red Nelson in the waning minutes of the last quarter, to set up Wilson's final score. f4'Outnumbered, out- manned, but not outfought, Wilson fell to the army ol' Huntington Park, 46-0. Early in the game Bruce Lloyd recovered a Tiger 'Fumble on the Lincoln 15 yard stripe. Three times Paul Clark drove, and on the third down he crashed six yards into the end zone. He converted, and Wilson led, 7-0. Lincoln matched this in the second quarter, and at halftime the score stood 7-7. Wilson came back with a rush in the third stanza when Rudy Viscarra scored from 20 yards out, and the score stayed at T3-7 until, with 4 minutes to go, Wilson's aerial defense fell apart, and Lincoln
