Vlfe all have a duty to perform V-whether it be on the battlefront or on the home front, and it will require the efforts of all on the combined fronts to assure victory. There are many ways in which we can help on the home front, but l want to call your attention to one way in particular: The world of tomorrow will be led by the youth of today. There will be a great demand for trained lead- ership in religion, in government, in education, and in business, lt is the patriotic duty of every parent to encourage and assist his child in obtaining all the edu- cational advantages offered by , our schools and colleges that it is possible for him to secure. lt is the patriotic duty of every child to stay in school as long as possible. Do not be tempted to leave school for the temporary high wages available today as All that glitters is not gold. This is temporary and after the boom days are over and the battle of brains is on, and it is sure to come, if you have dropped out of school you will not be trained and it will be difficult to settle down and try to study again. You will be handicapped beyond measure and you and your country will suffer the loss. l appeal to you to remain in school at least until you graduate from high school and then continue in college if you can possibly do so. Live a clean life, play fair with yourself and your fellowman, associate with those who are fighting for right against evil, revere God and love country, then there will be no fear for the future. Sincerely your friend, W. H. BLANEY. OFFICERS W. H. Blaney . .... ...... P resident L. W. Ellsworth . ....... Program Chairman V. C. Layne . ...... Membership Chairman M. A. Newman . . Secretary-Treasurer 20 Parent-Teacher Association Presidents Message Every day, all over the world, American home training is being vindicated by our school boys and girls of only a few years ago. Parent-Teacher work has had a part in that training, and this knowledge should encourage us to strive all the harder with our school boys and girls of today, to help train them for their future tasks. Our opportunity and responsi- bility is of prime importance on the home front. Let us realize, as Abraham Lincoln said, that: lt is a struggle for maintain- ing in the world that form and substance of government whose object is to elevate the condition of men.. .5 to afford all an un- fettered start and a fair chance in the race of life. Proof of his ability to select and present programs which are both appropriate and at- tractive is found in this letter written to Principal G. L. Ashburn by a prominent Dallas citizen: May l express to you rny great appreciation for the splendid program which your band and pep sguad rendered at the 'W'oodrow 'Wilson-Sunset High School football game Thanksgiving Dayp it was an unusual performance. SERGEANT WILLIAM FORSTER First Sergeant Forster is a retired army man, who served in the Philippines and in Cuba during the Span- ish-Arnerican 'W'ar, and who was also active in the World War. He retired as a top sergeant twenty-three years ago. Many years later he received the order of the Purple Heart by congessionai action for distin- guished service in Cuba, where he was Wounded. The sergeant has served in nearly every country in the Far East, where war is now raging. His knowledge and experience make him invaluable to the cadets and the School. SERGEANT CLAUDE THOMPSON Master Sergeant Thompson has now been with the Woodrow Cadet Corps one and one-half years. Before coming here he was at Texas A. G M. College. While he was there he produced a National Intercollegiate championship team. During his short time here he has done much to further the progress of the Corps. He has helped the boys individually and has made the seventh regiment better riflemen on a whole. SERGEANT ANTHONY STANTTZKY Technical Sergeant Anthony Stanitzlcy, who has been in the army for eighteen years, is now on the staff of capable instructors for the Woodrow Wilson Cadet Corps. He was last stationed at Ashburn General Hos- pital tn McKinney, Texas, Before that, his unit was with the Second Division, which is now overseas. The sergeant is already well liked by the Cadets and has proved himself a valuable asset, fvffxga, My -- .tg V, .ai 1w.V.r I A 1 -Q Carleton Anderson Carter Cherry Richard Hampton Robert Acrey Madison Adams Roy Barr Bill Brandt Iohn Burke Robert Burpo Ernest Burson Robert Campbell Kenneth Carter Roger Adams Bob Barnett Bill Benter Iohnny Campagna Iohnny Clements Robert Cody Lloyd Cook Ed Davis -M ff ' - , 4' A. 7 M First Band DIRECTOR Colonel George 'Royster OFFICERS lack Hannon Levin Lake Charles Hoag Billy McGarrah NON-COMS Paul Chase Iames Conway Bill Hensel lack lames Calvin Iohnson Bobby Iones Billy Iustus Robert Kieschnick Frank Leonard loe Dunlap Andy Fair Walter Ford Barney Graham Bob Harris Kent Haynes Clay Herndon Karl Huclgins lack Lincoln Larley Lokey Delbert Massey William McCord Gene McGarrah Don Melcer George Pletzer Billy Polasek Walter Prasitka PRIVATES Ralph Kimball Fritz Knauer Robert Laves Lester Lokey Bobby Myers Keith O'Kelly Roy Richards Charles Rogers Charles Roberson Vaughan Williams Thomas Price William Rechenberg Donald Shatter Thomas Sloan lack Smith Kenneth Staples George Tyson Paul Willis Billy Shipp Ralph Stephan Ben Templeton lulius Tracy Robert Verinder Don Weiss Gordon Zollars H .-Q' Q-M 4 ' Q t ti K J gc. t a .. it S Verner Motchman l. Kitchen closes his thirteenth season as head ot the Woodrow Wil- son basketball team, he does so with the record ot having taught his boys, not only the tunda- mentals of basketball, but also the principles of good sportsmanship and tair play. By his hard work, he converted a comparatively inexperi- enced group into a quintet worthy ot our praise. Most ot these boys will return next year to assure Woodrow Wilson of a fine basketball team.
