1 Mr. Robinson's sociology class is filled with many exuberant seniors who are interested in studying how society affects man. nfl' iii LEFT: Mr. Robinson, who also teaches American history, is the first teacher to teach sociology at Woodlawn. What is the Bill of Rights? What is man's relation- ship with society? These questions are answered in the social studies classes at Woodlawn eveifv year. These classes are important to the average student because they offer him a way to know and be proud of America. These courses also teach him the differences between our democracy and the government of other nations. Various methods are used to present information to the members of the classes. These methods include skits, films, field trips, lectures, and discussions. A new social studies course was offered this year for the first time at Woodlawn. It is sociology and is taught by Mr. Robinson. sociology deals with man's relation to society. Social studies remains an important part of our curri- culum. lnterested students will find that these courses will prove worthwhile in securing future occupations.

Language art classes are some of the most important subjects offered at Woodlawn. The fact that three years of English is mandatory tells one how important lan- guage really is. The use of good English is of great importance in this day and age. Good English is necessary to express thoughts effectively with words, as well as on paper. English is the key to a more abundant and progressive life. Grammar is an essential part of the study of English. Discussions, lectures, and demonstrations are used by the teachers to help their students understand the struc- ture of sentences and the various functions of the differ- ent parts of speech. RIGHT: Speech I students learn the fundamentals of speaking by giv ing oral presentations. - W 1 Speaklng Among tudents of ood awn Mrs. Foster talks with Speech IV students about their speeches These students are also on the Woodlawn Debate Team
