PEL State Offers New Experience Pelican State is held annually each summer at the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. Each Louisiana high school sends a designated number of students elected by the junior class. Upon arrival each delegate is placed in a mythical city and parish. During the course of the week, the delegates are also placed in a mock political party. For approximately eight days, the students partici- pate in a fast-paced program which includes elec- tions, spirit-oriented activities, and lectures hy prom- inent speakers. The program is designed to promote interest in local and state governments. lt is expected that each representative relay the knowledge learned to his school and city in order to achieve a better informed community.
