GRTEUIRy TO UIOFFORD CRfRPUS Therefore, when we speak of ourselves as divided into Barbarians, Philistines, and Populace, we nnust be understood always to imply that within each of these classes there are a certain number of aliens, if we may so call them, — persons who are mainly led, not by their class spirit, but by a general humane spirit, by the love of human perfection and that this number is capable of being diminished or augmented.

To the average incoming freshman, college life appears to be a welter of unorganized effort. He soon discovers, however, that many of its seemingly inchoate ' jspects are rather invaluable parts of the organized whole. Doubtless he will remember for years his first registration and first impressions of professors and the chapel. The field house reception will be the first of many more social events to come in his college career. He will have to work hard at times; but the college intersperses its schedule with holidays and entertainments. Such honors as come to him will round out his college year and make the work necessary to gain them seem lighter. • For the upperclassmen, this tortuous process of orien- tation is completed. They have a greater range of interests and a fund of experience to cope with their problems. Part of their duty is to instill in each class of freshmen the Wofford tradition. • The seniors especially have a comprehensive view of their college days. Throughout the year, they are looking backward at their associations and achievements, and forward to the day of graduation.
