JOURNAL The Journal, Wofford ' s literary magazine, this year celebrated its fiftieth anniversary, following this theme throughout its five issues. First published in 1889 under the editorship of such men as Senator E. D. Smith, Dr. W. P. Few and the late Bishop E. D. Mouzon, the November issue of the fiftieth an- niversary year contained contributions from Senator Smith and Dr. Few; and throughout the succeeding issues articles by prominent alumni writers were featured. J At the State Colle- giate Press Association convention held at Cle mson College in November, articles having appeared in The Journal won three first places, outdistancing all other publications in the state in this respect. J Besides the usual run of short stories, poems and essays, the contents of this year ' s issues included a greater variety of interviews, sketches, features and pictures than ever before. 5 Thus the editor attempted to mod- ernize the appearance and content of the maga- zine, retaining at the same time the true literary merit of the publication.
