Control Stations Efficient Three areas which are vital to the efficient functioning of the school are the office com¬ munications center, the Health Suite and the office of the Dean of Girls. Office duties include arranging appointments, compiling “The Re¬ flector” and disseminating information through¬ out the school. The nurses in the Health Suite provide for the general physical well-being of both students and teachers. Under the com¬ petent direction of Miss Salmon, Dean of Girls, female students find accurate and fair decisions regarding academic areas, extracurricular ac¬ tivities, and the mode of dress. A smile often helps ease pain. Miss Salmon greets a student.

Principal’s Message To the Members of the Class of 1969: In a period of confrontation, conflict, and deep concern in our national life at all levels, it has become fashionable for many statesmen, educators, and public leaders to decry the moral values and basic philosophy of our youth. The failure of many in adult life to understand the impatience of youth, its concern with social problems, and its desire to change the status quo has resulted in the so-called “generation gap.” Yet history shows it was always so. “Our youth now have luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of the household. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up their food and tyranize their teachers.” In truth, these words were uttered by Socrates, the great Greek philosopher, in the fifth century B.C., yet how many times have we heard them, in paraphrase, in our own day— profoundly spoken as though the newest generation was different in its impression on its elders from all previous generations of mankind! What is different about the “now” generation on the eve of Graduation in 1969 is its drive, preparation, and intelligence. It is to this best educated class in the long history of the Woburn Senior High School—the Class of 1969—that I am privileged to extend sincere best wishes for all possible future happiness and success. Guidance Seeks Individual Self-Appraisal The Guidance Department believes that every student is capable of being directed to maximum achievement through a knowledge of his own worth and capabilities and a mature sense of re¬ sponsibility. The department is constantly striving to assist each student to reach his maximum scholastic potential and to aid him in finding the most suitable place for his creative efforts. Guidance, toward self appraisal, is the best method of helping the student realize his own potential. A student may request an interview with his counselor when¬ ever the need or desire arises. Discussions with parents concerning the educational opportunities for their sons and daughters are regarded as most essential. Parents who are unable, or who find it difficult to confer during regular school hours, may do so on Monday evenings, as the Guidance Office is open, by appoint¬ ment, every week at this time. Guidance seeks to help the individ¬ ual help himself and assists each student in making a wise choice for his benefit and the benefit of society. Students discuss future. 23
