Biology Department Increases Staff The main objective of the Biology department is to provide an ade- quate and interesting program with which students may fulfill their ed- ucation requirements. This pro- gram covers those students who plan to work in biology and related fields and those choosing to take biology electives, with courses leading to a more specialized ma- jor. Dr. Elizabeth King, Mr. Robert Shervette, and Mr. David Stroupe were added to the teaching staff this year. A future plan of the de- partment is to combine the insights of modern biology and the broad foundation of classical studies into a meaningful whole. College of Arts and Sciences Has New Dean The College of Arts and Sciences is divided into the following de- partments: Art; Biology; Chemistry and Physics; Communications; English; History, Political Science, and Geography; Mathematics; Modern and Classical Languages; Philosophy and Religion; Psychol- ogy; and Sociology. Dean William Easley in his first year at Winthrop has continued and augmented the successful integration of these var- ious departments into a college which encompasses most of the basic instruction carried on at Winthrop. Dr. Easley confers with a student on the problem of taking an overload for graduation. Art Department Makes Plans to Move The Art department provides courses needed by various majors such as home economics and pri- mary education as well as offering art to any interested student.
