Changes Reflect Coed Status After three months of discussion, the South Carolina General As- gsmbly passed a compromise Winthrop coed bill on June 25, 1969. Then, in August, Mr. Walter Schrader received an M.A. in Bio- logy, thus opening the door to addi- tional male graduat es. One hun- dred ninety-seven male students were admitted first semester. Becoming a coed institution has caused many adjustments: Dr. Thomas Morgan has been named as Acting-part-time Dean of Men, the Town Girls’ Association be- came the Town Students’ Associa- tion; also, men have instituted freer discussion in classes as well as prompting a new awareness of appearance among women stu- dents. Mr. Walter H. Schrader gets a congratulatory kiss from his wife after being awarded his diploma.
