PRESIDENT of the College Ce weeping, lel ; DR. DAVIS and JACKIE Dr. Charles Shephard Davis, President of Winthrop College is dedicated to the continued development of this educational institution. Since his coming to Winthrop in 1959, Dr. Davis has striven to improve the academic excellence of the college in every way possible. New professors of the highest quality have been added to the faculty, new courses have been instigated to improve the curriculum, and new facili- ties, particularly laboratories, have been built to improve the practical learning experience available at Winthrop. An honors program, comprised of special honors sections of regular courses, seminars, and individual directed studies has been developed. The scope of Winthrop’s graduate program has in- 25 DR. and MRS. DAVIS creased and graduate assistantships have been established. The physical appearance of the college has changed to meet the demands of a rapidly growing student body. Besides the two new dormities al- ready in use, another is presently under construction and still another is planned for the near future. A large Student Union Building is under construction and will be ready for use during the school year 1966-67. A new library is also in the planning stage. President Davis and his lovely wife occupy the large residence on the Winthrop campus. They are present at many extra-curricular functions of the col- lege and both are admired and respected by the student body.
