DEDICATED TO... Mr. John R. C. James To one who is a stimulating professor, and one who is open to the eager mind of a student; to one who is a favorite among Winthrop students, and one whose personality bespeaks composure tinted with good humor; to one who came to our United States from Canada, and to Winthrop from the University of Michigan; to Mr. John R. C. James we proudly dedicate the 1966 Tatler. His magnetic personality is always evident—at home, in the classroom, or at a dance.

SA et. Sees see rr To the student, Winthrop is a home, a way of life. Within the pages of this 1966 TATLER are enclosed the history, the aspirations, the joys and the sorrows of our college community. In the Pro- logue, the reader has experienced a concise, pano- ramic, and, hopefully, a vivid picture of life at Winthrop College. Each individual has a different conception of Win- throp, whether he be a student, an administrator, a faculty member, an alumna, or an interested friend. Life at Winthrop has many facets. It is a place for growing socially through continual interaction with one’s fellow students; it is a place for developing one’s talents and interests through various classes and extracurricular activities; it is a place for grow- ing spiritually through the various student center and campus wide religious activities; it is a place for broadening one’s conceptions of life through numer- ous lectures, discussion groups, and private conver- sations; but more than all of these, it is a place to exercise scholarship and deveolp one’s mental capa- bilities to their fullest.
