CHARLES SHEPHARD Davis President Since his arrival at Winthrop in 1959, President Charles S. Davis has been continually working for the expansion of the college, both physically and academically. In addition, he maintains a lively interest in college activities and in the students themselves. President Davis holds degrees from Auburn University, the University of California, and re- ceived his Ph.D. from Duke University. He has held the positions of Dean, College of Arts and Sciences, Florida State University; Dean of the Faculties, Florida State University; and is a past national president of Phi Kappa Phi. He is mar- ried to the former Mary Greenfield Merrit of Montgomery, Alabama. They have three daugh- ters, Mary, Catherine, and Charlott e.
