This school year, four exchange students joined our student body. Coming from the south of France, our school made friends with Claire Aussilloux. It is a great chance and experience for her to live in the south of the United States for a school year. Claire has enjoyed, for the most part, the social life in Winter Haven. Leaving Winter Haven High, her American family, friends, and everything she has discovered here will be very hard. Claire thinks America is a great country!! Jose Antonio Romero comes from a small town in Monteros, Tucuman, Argentina. He is eighteen years old and is living with the Madaus family while in th United States. In his spare time Jose enjoys playing soccer, rugbv, and swimming. Being such a sports lover he joined the city soccer team here. He also enjoys going out with friends in his free time. Jose’s future plans include to be a nuclear engineer. He also hopes to come back to the United States someday. . A 1 r '' V —— 50 Studrnt Life FROM HOME!! Vivienne Lynn Kean is eighteen years old and from a town of about six thousand people called Wynyard, which is on the Northwest coast of Tasmania. She is in her second year at Hellyer College in Burnie. Vivienne is living with Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Good. She is taking advanced Physics, Chemistry, Algebra, Geometry, and Art. In her spare time she enjoys swimming, playing volleyball, netball, and squash. She also enjoys dancing and playing the guitar. Upon graduating from college Vivienne will be joining the Royal Australian Air Force as a communications operator or computer technician. If possible, she would like to do commercial art as an outside job. Vivienne finds that America is not much different than Australia. The Americans are friendlier but more conservative she finds. Annette Sundberg is here sponsored by the American Scandinavian Student Exchange Program. She is seventeen years old and from Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. In her free time Annette enjoys running, swimming, and snow skiing. She has been working in a flowershop for a long period of time. Annette would like to be a tour guide after attending college, as she loves to travel. Coming to America has been a dream come true for her. She has learned a lot about the American life and culture. It has been a really exciting year for Annette and she has experienced homecoming, prom, and hopes to graduate in June. BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD Construction began this year at Winter Haven High School for the renovation of our outdated Home Economics wing that was built in 1955. When completed, there will be four Home Economics labs. Also, a new Science building with two Chemistry labs and two Biology labs was begun. This building was a result of the RAISE bill requiring one more science credit. This construction was made possible by the Parent Teacher Student Organization and the School Plant Survey Team. 58 Student Life DE VIL S GIVE IT Winter Haven High School has done a great deed in contributing blood to the Winter Haven Hospital. The Blood Mobile visited November 8, 9. 1983. and January 30. 31. 1984. The students gave at least sixty pints per visit. Through the Winter Haven High School blood bank account, we were able to contribute sixteen pints to David Ar-mistead, a fellow student, who suffered a severe car accident. Students have been given a big “thank you for helping with the fight for lives. Studrnt Lifr 59 C.lawtcs cdilor: Beck) ildcr Staff nwinbcr? : Kell) Cowart, John Barnes. The leaders were dedicated and responsive to their fellow-classmates, and dependable and helpful to the administration and faculty. The student body responded willingly with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
