JAKE MAGALLANEZ The staff chose to dedicate the '78 meteor to Mr. Jake Magallanez. Mr. Jake, as he is called by some of his sttjdents, attended NAU where he received his teacher's certificate, his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and his Master of Arts in Business Education. He has been with WHS five years and in that time has sponsored FBLA and Jr. Lulac, and has coached the JV and eighth grade football teams. Also he is one of the sponsors for the class of '79. Outside the high school he has just finished his fifth year as the coach of the amateur boxing team in town. He also coached boxing at NAU for five years. He used to box himself, both amateur and pro. He is the president of the Winslow Lulac council and used to be a member of Kiwanis. We, the Meteor staff of 1978, salute Mr. Magallanez for a job well done.  4J ANNUAL KING AND QUEEN Virgil Joe was chosen as Annual King for his hard work for his class and the school. He designed many program covers for athletic events, banquets, plays, and musicals. Virgil has drawn posters, has done illustrations for the Barks, and designed the class float all 4 years. He was recognized as outstanding art student of 1977-78. Maria Monsegur served as vice-president of her senior class, and as representative for Spanish Club. She was active in Student Council. Maria was outstanding student for Spanish I, II, and III, and a one year member of Honor Society. She belonged to Jr. LULAC, speech and Drama, FBLA, FHA and Science Club. She was also a four year member of band. SENIORITIS Starting right, CLOCKWISE, Hang in there Donald, graduation is almost here. Mary Jane Nanez asks that crucial question, Isn't school over yet? Debra Mead and, below, Julie DeLeve had senioritis so bad they didn't bother to dress for school. Are those Senior feet? Chila Jackson dreams of the last Great Class. The class was also voted to have the best school spirit. The class candidates for Christmas Royalty were Jeanne Hayduckovich and Eddie Kirkland who placed fourth. The class then made a comeback by taking first in the Christmas chain contest with a paper chain that went all the way around the block and overlapped. This year's seniors raised $1,938. 74 to meet the year's expenses after starting cut the year with only $122.00. They continued the four year tradition of going to Big Surf for senior Ditch Day. Class Day, which was held on May 18, included reading of wills and prophecies and die class poem written by Don Summersgill. The traditional key was presented to Chuck Thomack by Don Summcrsg’ll. Chila Jackson read her class prayer. Skits parodying the staff were David Guzman depicting Mr. Reynolds, TessO'Haco as Mrs. Zeiger, Bill Herron as Mrs. McAuley, and Don Summersgill as Miss Dubuy. 8 CLASS DAY J a .r JEFF DALE AH MANN Football 1, 2, 3, 4; Basketball 1, 2, 3; Wrestling 4; Track 1, 2, 3, 4; All Conference Football 4; Wr Club 3, 4; Football Cocaptain 4.
