The annual staff of 1975 would like to dedicate this yearbook to Mrs. Elizabeth Wennet. Mrs. Wennet, who teaches girls health and P.E. graduated from N.A.C. in Alva, Oklahoma, in 1973. In the two years that she has taught she has sponsored the mascots, cheerleaders, and pep squad. Her coaching involves volleyball where the girls took 3rd in AA state in 1974, and gymnastics where the girls took state runner-up champs in 1974 and 5th in 1975. Mrs. Wennet has put a great deal of effort in her coaching, she has an outstanding personality and is an asset to the WHS faculty. 2 Class day was a success this year. They started out by taking second place on their Homecoming float. Next they took first in the Miss Merry Christmas Contest, with their candidate, Beverlee Stucker, winning the contest. This made the class of '75 the second class in the history of Winslow High to take first place for four straight years. Then the senior class proceeded to take a first in the Christmas tree decorating contest, which was new to W.H.S. this year. The senior class was also very v ealthy their last year. This helped them to have a better senior banquet, ditch day, and senior hop. The seniors earned money by running the concession stand at the football games and by giving a play titled The Screwtape Letters . The class had approximately 138 members, which made it one of the smaller classes to graduate from W.H.S. in recent years. Its scholastic record as a class was, however, unusually high. The honor goes to two seniors who have worked unusually hard to support their class and assist at club activities during their four years at W.H.S. Carol Ann Plese and Mike Falling were chosen as Annual King and Queen for 1974-75 because they helped collect cans for Miss Merry Christmas, and they always worked on their class floats. They attended club meetings and served on many committees including the senior banquet committee, Junior Prom committee and were always reliable and willing workers. 28 Gina Jenkins Pauline Padilla Art Rubi Kate McLean Margo Oalton Patricia Cox Susie Day Priscilla Pavatea The annual class of 1974-75 was very busy getting together an interesting and informative account of student activities during the year. They started out with a bang by taking a proud first on their Homecoming float, which was a graveyard with a gypsy looking into the future through a crystal ball. Their next memoraole accomplishment was having their Miss Merry Christmas candidate, Donna Shea Glover, take fourth in the can collecting contest. A tree decorating contest was held for the first time and although the class did not do so well in this event they will remember the fun time they had decorating the tree. Among the many productive fund raising projects held by the class were bake sales, a consession stand during the state volleyball meet, and the annual Twirp dance. 40 Robert Adelfson Diane Anderson Patricia Aragon Rena Arthur Veronica Attakai Joseph Baca Diana Bahnimptewa Tonnia Batata Debbie Baumgartner Robert Beaty Karen Benefield Tom Bonham Julian Betony Tony Bozarth Ronald Breeze Pauline Bedonie Mike Beeson Delphine Begay Lorraine Begay Minnie Begay Darrell Bryson Barbara Cahill Douglas Callahan Fred Campbell David Caraway 41 David Caswell Sarah Chacon Gary Charley Alma Chase Donald Chase John Chase Gilbert Chee Ronnie Colbath Larry Conatser Brenda Cox Frank Craig Deborah Curley Starlene Curley Lloyd Curtis Cindy Darnell 42 PICTURED ABOVE is Donna Shea Glover, sophomore's 1974 Miss Merry Christmas candidate. The freshman class placed third in the Homecoming float competition. The class came up with a clever idea that really fit in with the Homecoming theme which was a miniature replica of Winslow High School that they had placed on a large yellow moon. Two rockets were also fixed to look as if they were transporting students to the moon school. Then as the year went along the freshman class took a close second in the Miss Merry Christmas contest with Valarie Bryson as their candiate. The class succeeded in raising $128.89 worth of canned goods to support their candidate. The freshman class placed third in the first annual Christmas Tree Decorating contest which was sponsored by Student Council. After the tree was judged it was given to a family that could not afford to buy their own tree. Of course, every year the freshmen get the glorious job of oiling the W; this year was no different. With oil covering their bodies they managed to cover the W with old rags, rugs, and any thing else they could find. As the band played the Alma Mater the W was lit by members of the class. Rickey G. There were 22 members of Student Council that participated in this activity. In the morning everyone met and was assigned to the city official with whom he spent the morning. After students had gone to their departments for that day, they met back at the Police Complex where they were loaded onto the fire truck and proceeded to ride all over town. After lunch, at the Elks they returned to City Hall and had a council meeting and a mock trial where Marcia Wilhoite was found guilty. The people to participate in this event were Dennis Peters, Debbie Heartz, Pauline Padilla, Steph Coballos, Joe Ianni, Gina Jenkins, David Cox, Harold Soehner, Cindy Breeze, Sheila Cain, Earlene Cole, Neil Lomayestewa, Chuck Serna, Frank Jue, Steve DeAngelis, Ginger Sanchez, Leonard Padilla, Priscilla Pavatea, Marcia Wilhoite, Hazel Perry, Becky Herlacher, and Darlene Hadnot. 157 In Memory of Mr. Mac When our time comes to leave this earth will we be able to say we made a contribution to mankind, or will we only be able to say we existed and took up space and time? Mr. Mac can have the peace of mind knowing that he made the ultimate contribution to society. He made the world a better place in which to live. Mac was not only a molder of great athletes, but he was a master architect when it came to building men. He found the happy medium that many educators and coaches hope to achieve. He was able to insli II discipline in his students and athletes, but never at the expense of kindness, understanding and love. Mac left us much too soon, at the age of 62, on August 17, 1974. While he was living, he never asked his players to find excuses or ask for sympathy. And, as he was fighting cancer during his last year with us, he too, never asked for sympathy or help from his many friends. Mac was never one to burden others with his problems, but he was always the first to offer his assistance to someone in need of his help. That's the kind of man Mr. Mac was. MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Steve DeAngelis and Judy Kalisz BEST DRESSED Frank Jue and Teresa Guzman MOST CHARMING COUPLE 159 Chuck Sema and JoAnn Campbell I hope in the years to come thaty u have fond memories when you look back on the pages of this book. As Alexander Smith once said, A man's real possession is his memory. In nothing else is he rich, in nothing else is he poor. 160
