QUILL AND SCROLL Quill and Scroll, an honorary organization for students interested in school publications, was reactivated in WHS after a five year absence. To qualify for membership, a student must be enrolled in some phase of school publications, rank in the upper third of his class, be a junior or senior, and be recommended by both the advisor and club secretary. Students eligible for this organization are drawn from the journalism, annual, and photography classes. This years' members consisted of 16 students. Mrs. Roberts, the sponsor, made it possible for the club to once more be active. Initiation was held in the latter part of April. Members were presented at this time with the club pin making them officially a member of the Honorary Quill and Scroll. The acting officers for the year were Heather Morris, president; Shorty Higginson, vice-president; Valerie Wilhoite, secretary-treasurer. Students who were honored by membership in this newly activated organization for 1973-74 in addition to the acting officers were Mike MacLean, Wayne Taylor, Myrna Pavatea, Cindy Breeze, Mike Breeze, Susi Keller, Gina Jenkins, Suzanne Cribbs, Marcia, Wilhoite, Julia Mallette, Steve Dc Angclis, Chuck Serna, and Beverlee Stucker. MATMAIDS Matmaids had a very successful year. Inspite of the fuel shortage the members were able to attend many of the out of town matches including the State Wrestling matches at Tucson held the 15 and 16 of February. To belong to MATMAIDS a student must have a 3.0 grade average and be chosen by the members. Membership is limited to ten girls. Initiation is held in the middle part of November and the girls arc taught how to score and learn the signals given by the officials. They have worked hard to promote spirit for the wrestlers. The girls have made up their own cheers and worked hard to please the wrestlers as well as the student body. Pictured At Top Matmaids form the mighty W for WHS.  Ya-ba-da-doo , guess who? Banana races are lot of fun????????? FRESHMAN ORIENTATION Freshman Orientation in the fall of '73 had more freshmen participation then ever. Freshmen enjoyed the different chores given to them by the upper classmen, but not as much as the upper classmen enjoyed them. Initating the freshmen into high school is taken on by the upper classmen during slave week at WHS. The freshmen are sold to the upper classmen who bid the highest for the service of die student purchased. They are given various kinds of orders which they had to obey. If they did not follow an order given they were sentenced to face the punishments issued by the Kangaroo Court. Events included during the initiation were the Peanut Race and Banana Race. It takes great skill to master a peanut. Freshmen students learn about student government and activities at WHS during Freshman Orientation.
