WHS'S fine display of spirit at all athletic games was encouraged by the pep squad members who helped the guys to victory with their fine cheers and routines. PEP SQUAD Pep Squad had a great year. The club consisted of boys as well as girls in grades 9-12 who were interested in promoting school spirit. They were very proud to be backing up our athletes. Cheering at away games as well as at home brought victory to our teams. Throughout the year they helped put on assemblies, rallies, and pep chains before a game. Club members also made posters and gave the athletes treats to encourage them. Meetings were held on the first and last Wednesday of the month. Officers for the club were Marcia Wilhoite, president; Teresa Guzman, vice-president; Priscilla Pavatea, secretary; Hazel Perry, treasurer; Susan Kaye, recorder, and Darlene Handnot, representative. FROSH CHEERLEADERS Freshmen Cheerleaders for the school year in 1973-74 were Diana Nelson, Kathy Me Laws, Jeannie Sorenson, Debbie Bumgarner. They had a great part in promoting spirit at the basketball games, football games, and especially at the pep assemblies. They attended all games played by the WHS Bulldogs and helping the crowd to become more involved in the game was their way of showing the soul they had. The Freshmen Cheerleaders are chosen in an election held by the junior high student body in the spring. They then serve throughout their freshman year in WHS. They present their cheers and a routine that they made up by themselves. From their routines, they exhibit some gymnastic feats such as tumbles, splits, and perhaps, cartwheels. Different cheerleaders are chosen every year. Freshmen Cheerleaders form a pyramid at Left. From Top To Bottom they are Kathy McLaws, Diana Nelson, Jeanne Sorenson, and Debbie Bumgarner. At Bottom the Freshmen Cheerleaders assume another formation which shows their agility and precision.

MATMAIDS Matmaids had a very successful year. Inspite of the fuel shortage the members were able to attend many of the out of town matches including the State Wrestling matches at Tucson held the 15 and 16 of February. To belong to MATMAIDS a student must have a 3.0 grade average and be chosen by the members. Membership is limited to ten girls. Initiation is held in the middle part of November and the girls arc taught how to score and learn the signals given by the officials. They have worked hard to promote spirit for the wrestlers. The girls have made up their own cheers and worked hard to please the wrestlers as well as the student body. Pictured At Top Matmaids form the mighty W for WHS.
