SERVICE AND WISDOM DESERVE DEDICATION 1971 Because of the outstanding guidance and service of two of the leaders of our school administration, it would be impossible to distinguish between them. We have decided to dedicate this year's Meteor to both men. One of this year's Dedicatees has been a faithful servant for the Winslow School System and the City of Winslow for many years. He came to Winslow in 1929, when he taught Plain Geometry in the high school for one year. He then became a science teacher for four years before becoming Assistant Principal and physics teacher. In 1935, he became Winslow High School's principal. In 1939, he became the Superintendent of Public Schools in Winslow. When World War II began, Mr. Ray Booth joined the Navy and served his country for three years. He received his BS Degree from Kansas State Teachers College in 1929, his Masters Degree from the University of Arizona in 1934, and attended USC for nine summers. To you, Mr. Booth, we dedicate the 1971 Meteor in return for the priceless gifts of knowledge and inspiration you have bestowed upon us. We want to express our deep gratitude for the guidance and support you have so unselfishly given us in your years of service to Winslow Public Schools. Your wise counsel will never be forgotten. Our other Meteor Dedicatee came to Winslow in 1940. He taught fourth and fifth grades at Lincoln School as the only male teacher. In 1941, he began his service to his country in the U.S. Air Force. He returned to Winslow during the school year 1947-48 and taught sixth grade at Wilson School. In 1948-51, he returned to the Air Force and taught ROTC at the University of Arizona in Tucson in 1953. In 1954-55, he returned to teach seventh grade in Winslow and coach basketball. In 1957, he became Winslow High School's principal and has faithfully served our high school for the past 14 years. At his own request, Mr. James L. Curtis will be principal of the Winslow Junior High School beginning the school year 1971-72. He attended Arizona State Teachers College at Tempe, and received his Bachelors Degree in 1938. In 1956, he received his Masters Degree from Arizona State College in Flagstaff. And to you, Mr. Curtis, we gratefully dedicate this 1971 Meteor for all your untiring service to your community and to the high school. It was your wise guidance and counseling that has built Winslow High School's outstanding reputation and has made us proud of our school. Your sincere interest and concern with all students of WHS and the City of Winslow will always be remembered and deeply appreciated by all who were privileged to receive it.
