The Vocational Agriculture Iboartment of Wingo High School consist of four phases of training for boys and men who are engaged in farming. The first phase provides training for high school boys that live on the farm and are interested in becoming established in farming. The boys taking vocational agriculture have control of farming nrograms, so that they may carry out practices learned in the class roum. They have an organization, The Future Farmers of America, in which they recieve training in agricl- tural leadership, cooperation and citizenship. The motto consists of four lines filled with practical philosophy, reflecting a spirit of sincerity that shows the true viewpoint of farm youth, the Nbackbone of a nation.W The motto is: Learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, living to serve. The second phase, The Young Farmer Group, trains young men who have finished high school that live on the farm, imoroved practices of scien- tific principles of agriculture that will enable them to become better farmers in future years. The Young Farmer class this year is small due to greetings of Uncle Sam and young men that are helping to make our country a better olace in which to live. The third phase, The Institutional-on-farm training group or veteran classes. we now have only one class of veterans, under the instruction of a very effecient an able instructor Mr. Duke Mayfield. This group meets in the class room of the agriculture deoartment twice weekly for 22 hours of class room instruction in the latest imoroved practices so they may be carried out on each individual farm. Once monthly an on-farm-group meeting is held where imeroved farming practices are seen in progress, demonstration or actual practice is carried out. Each year there is a shop course taught and many farm needs are carried out during their time spent in shop. We have had gates, hay racks, mineral feeders, truck beds, sides for trucks, wagons, wall cabinets and other things mfde this vear. We should be proud of the progress that our veterans are making. The fourth phase, The Adult Farmer Program, is for men over 25 years of age interested in imnorving their farming practices by attending our night classes. It has been well reoresented by good attendance, we have a condensed course which is held during winter months and have been work- ing on pasture improvement in our community this year. Each of these phases are under the direction of the Vocational Agriculture teacher, Edward Oakley. Gibson and his regis tered Jersey
