ocial tudies lncreases Worldly Knowledge Producing responsible, civic-minded citizens is the overall ob- jective of the social studies department at Wingfield. To achieve this goal, courses are offered ranging from ancient history to the complicated, crisis-stricken world of the present day. These divisions of study are highlighted by accredited films and ac- claimed speakers who further extend the interests of the students beyond the classroom. An extracurricular organization stemming from the social studies department is the Junior Historical So- ciety. This honor group is a credit to both our school and par- ticularly to this section. Appointed chairman of the social studies department this year is Mr. Bill Caston, whose dedication and responsiveness to student needs have met all standards required to maintain the high level of education enjoyed by all students at Wingfield. t 2 l . - I Why DOESN'T the male mosquito carry malaria? Science Encourages Exploration While striving to understand that which awed, Wingfield students sought to broaden their minds through the field of science. -To assist them with this conquest they were provided with some of the finest equipment as well as some of the most qualified teachers. This year Wingfield was very fortunate to be one of the few schools in Mississippi that offered a program extending through advanced chemistry as studied in nearby colleges. Yes, our education was prepared for us and all we had to do was accept it. Our paths were made clear through ex- ploring the uncertain, discovering the inevitable, and learn- ing what makes this world tick, Coach Berry illustrates his lesson. 34 Work, work, work.
