enterrng our classes and occasronally we lost one of our members Naturally mother nature was takrng her course so we weren t left out In the puppy loves and heartbreaks Brll Rose became the Romeo of the class He was never wrthout a gxrlfnend who worshrpped the ground he walked on and every girl rn class envred the one he chose for his sweetheart In our frfth grade an excmng yet tragrc event took place What was rt? The grammar school burned For two uncertatn weeks we were out of school but were free to do as we pleased so naturally we enjoyed rt Finally that long awarted day arrrved our class was to graduate from Ole Wrnfreld Elementary School Mrs Ina Murl Moore was rn charge of the ceremony and Mr Gorden Crawford presented our drplomas to The year of 1952 saw us enterrng Wrnfreld H1 Thrs was almost lrke our fust day at school Every thrng was so strange bells rang to change classes there was a host of new students and a completely new staff of teachers But we put our hands to the grmd and frnrshed our frrst year rn hrgh school lrke a whrz In the erghth grade we had the pleasure of welcommg all the old class and two new members, Bar bara Westmoreland and Marrlyn Hocutt Srnce we had already expenenced one year rn high school we were ready for all the acnvrtres whxch took place Carol Burgess was chosen as our Homecomrng Mard and proved to be one of the most glamorous grrls rn the queen's court After we acquxred all the know ledge requrred of us we were told to go home for a vacation and come back rn three months Returmng to school rn the nrnth grade there were new rnterests and actrvmes for us Everyone look ed forward to the day when we chose the two grrls who would represent us as cheerleaders the next vear Among the grrls who particrpated tn the tryout, the lucky gtrls were Ann Jotner and Lolrta Mrlls Tlus year too the boys were elrgrble to go out for football Never the less there were strll the love affarrs heart, but we wanted to date them also We schemed cleverly to attract thelr attentron, hoprng all the whrle that they would ask us to the Football Band Banquet or other events of the year Our tenth year brought many changes Mr Brrndley was no longer our beloved prrncrpal Mr Bozeman a wrse and consxderate man took over the offrce and had soon won the trust and admrratron of the entrre class There were two new subjects offered to us, Diversrfxed Occupatrons whrch was taught by Mr Brindley and Journalrsrn whrch was taught by Mrs Bozeman Several of our number were rnvited to Join the Beta Club We frnrshed our tenth grade wrth a great deal of effort and were all waiting wrth anxiety for our Iunror year Our Iumor year got off to a good start wlth a new commercral teacher who won the admrratron of the class wrth the hrlarrous Jokes and easy-gomg personalrty Yes you guessed, rt was Mr Davrs He along w1th Mrs Bostrck and Mr Brxndley became our Jr Class sponsors Wrth their help our magazrne sales were a smashing success and we all had a grand trme at the Jr Sr Banquet The student Govem mg body was also organrzed this year wrth Mr Tapley as tts sponsor Then for two rrghtful weeks rn March the class was terrrfred What caused thrs panic? A vrsltlng committee composed of twenty flve teachers from schools all over Alabama occupied our school Then major purpose was to examme the school as a whole and report to us on our possrbrlmes of becomrng a member of the Southern Associatron of Secondary Schools and Colleges Thrs was the clxmax of our wonderful year as a jumor us. and broken hearts, but by now our attitude toward the boys had changed.
