The year 1958 was a banner year for track for it was the first time in several years that Winfield has had enough boys out to give any competition in track. Due to the consistent performance of Buddy Akin, jerry Gillen and Phil Hower in larger meets Winfield was able to score several points. Winfield's victories in dual competition were over E1 Dorado, Wellington, and Kapon of Wichita. The lone loss in dual competition was to Arkansas City. Future years in track look bright for only one senior will be lostg Milburn Brown a two-year letterman who threw the Javelin and ran on relay teams. Her ambition was to be an artist, perhaps a cartoonist, or fashion designer. U IA collection was taken by her junior Class to purchase Nancy's class ring, as a token of friendship. At the service her friends sat in a group. She passed away on May 18, 1956, as a result of injuries received in a car accident. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. jack E. Knuckey, and all her friends will always have wonderful memories of her gay spirit and sparkling personality. BY Pat Hess Beaulah Smith S E ,.,36.M.L.cvyrruiiyuh N DEDICATION IN MEMORY OF STANLEY CLARK Stanley Clark first came into the lives of Winfield High School stu- dents during his sophomore year. He was a tall, gray-eyed, brown haired boy of only seventeen at the , time of the tragic automobile accident of May 18, 1956. At Winfield High School, where he was in his junior year, Stanley was active in the agriculture department. Many times he was found either tinkering with his little Ford or on his horse, Smokie. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Clark, and his many friends will always hold fond memories of Stanley. Although I'm the one who gets credit for jobs done by the Student Council, I really deserve very little credit. For without my other two officers, little would have been' accomplished this year. The secretary's job in partic- ular is an especially trying one, and I might add, one whose aid has been very helpful to me. Then too, everyone of you who worked on .a committee or in any way helped with Student Council projects deserve the highest praise. Believe me I know what it's like to work without cooperation from others, but you at all times have co-operated wonderfully. Thanks to all of you for this wonderful spirit of participation. When you stop to think about it, we are lucky to have a Student Council in our school. If your spirit keeps up as it has been, you will always have an active Student Council to help govern you. However, don't take this wonderful organization for granted. For if you do, you will someday find that it has ceased to be a vital part of your school. As the year nears its end, I think you all should feel proud of yourselves for the fine work you have done. Thanks again, and best wishes for each of you in the future. Many of the students in other lands are able to write in English. If they write in their own language, the letters are translated for those who receive them. After the holidays, the club sponsored an exhibit of Christmas cards and letters received this year. Letters have been received from Europe, Asia, Africe, and South America.
