Q Page 21 JUN :OR l-ner: sci-loo Junior high students play an important part in Winfield high school activities. The student senate which has charge of activity points, junior high election, and numerous ac- tivities of the junior high, is sponsored by Mrs. Pearl Bartholomeau. A special project taken by the student body this year was the reducing of the high school light bill with Everett Higdon and Harold Hanshaw as chairmen. Mary Lou Conrod was winner of the Book Week prize. The quiz was held in junior high assem- bly Nov. 13. Many of the junior high students' talents are revealed in the various music organizations. The junior high students were more than active in A Cappella choir. Outstanding were Donald Chase. Elden Schroeder, Harold Carroll, George McNeish, Dorothy Stephenson, Jean Thomas, Marilyn Thornton,Corinne Edwards, Olive Soule, Betty Anne Smith, Maxine Taton, and Norvel Osborn. Applause group of the choral section was the junior high sextet composed of Jim Watkins, E. L. Van Laningham, Bill Plank, Ernest Kantiz. Kenneth Sidener, and Dale Meirs. Also in band and orchestra the junior high group are numerous: active are Phillip Albright, Raymond Oldham, Don Wind, Bobby Buss, Jimmie Albright, Patti Reiter, George McNeish, Dorothy Stephenson, Joan Miller, Margery Riggs, Norma Kastor, and Bertina Smith. Every pupil tests were given to the junior high students, Jan. 8. Placing highest in the state with a perfect score in eighth grade spelling was Ruth Ann Bergevin. In the upper five per cent were Eugene Gates, Eleanor Goode, Opal McDaniel, Robert Mossman, and Darvin Waite. . Seventh grade spelling winners were Neva Martling and Ara Sheeks with perfect scores and highest in the state. Bob Jones was in the upper five per cent. Freshmen English winners in the upper five per cent were Patricia Sable, June Powell, Marilyn McNeish. Jane Crawford, Dorothy Porter, Martha Luton, and Harold Hanshaw. Seventh grade English--Janet Yoder, upper one per cent: Bob Jones, Frances Baxter, Lilajane Hiatt, Eugene Weaver, Billy Lou Carroll, Reva Sturm, and Joan Martin in the upper five per cent. Winners in creative writing contest were Dorothy Stephenson, Max Holroyd, and Jim Watkins. Junior high cheerleaders were Maxine Taton, head cheerleader: Ruby Duncan, Kenneth Sidener, and Jackie Crawford. ' Head sponsor for ninth grade, Miss Lucy Hunter: eighth grade, Miss Willma Tullis: seventh grade, Miss Nina Heller. Norvel Osborn presided as president of junior high student body. Miss Lucy Headrick coached the junior high play, Penrod, given May 7-8. The cast includ- ed Jack King, Eugene Weaver, Don Miles, Jack Crawford, Robert Raynes, Eldon Schroeder, Harold Carrell, Everett Higdon, Phillip Albright, Robert Light, Robert Mossman, George McNeish, Bob Jones, Betty Lou Harrison, Peggy Greer, LaVerne Buffum, Patricia Clark, and Lita Mae Morgan.
