Main events were contributions to the Red Cross fund and Community Council llrive. The social event was the annual stag party. Many meml ers are planning to attend Camp Wood during the summer months and the presi 'ent will represent the group. Carl Hubbell :ppeared in the pay lyceum sponsored by Hi-Y. The junior Hi-Y had as officers this year, Phillip Albright, president: Dean Brant, vice-president: Forrest Swisher, secretary: Don King, treasurer: Lee Haney, Bible study Jack Roberts, program chairman: and George Tittsworth, piano player. Important activi- ties were the pencil sale and Red Cross work. Girl Reserves Ready For Service was the national theme of the senior Girl Reserve this year. Making up the cabinet were Emily Bernstorf, president: Bernadine Davis, vice-pres- itlent: Martha June Hudson, secretary: Dorothy Higginbottom, treasurer: Marcella Stew- art, program chairman: Margaret McNeil, service chairman: Josephifie Jones, publicity chairman: Wanda Land, librarian: Evelyn Wade, reporter: Helen Parker, memory book Lora Jean Ogilbee, pianist: Thelma P tter, music: Ruth Wolfram, devotional chairman. Twelve senior Girl Reserves attended the conference held at Augusta, Jan. 30-31, and Feb. 1. The annual Mother and Daughter banquet was given Feb. 10 at the Christian Church. Junior High Girl Reserves held their annu rl Dad and Daughter banquet Oct. 28. The theme was Hobo , and King and Queen elected were Bum Wesley Clark and Bumess Mary Jean Moore. JOURNALISM Journalism students of Winfield high school have two official publica- tions: The Winfield Oracle and The Lagondan. The Oracle, first published in 1911- 12, isissued bi-monthly and is a nteni- ber of the National Scholastic Press association. Editorial staff of the Oracle includes Wanda Land, Velda Farney tfirst se- mester onlyj editor: Evelyn Wade, managing editor: Joyce Young, neus editor: Eleanor Albright and Stanley Jenkins, feature editors: Rafeal Lopez, sport editor: Margaret McNeil, ex- change: Velma Dowler, typist: Char- lotte Guy, Bette Lou Lewis, and Mary Alice Saxton, Thelma Potter, lfirst semesterj reporters: Nuel Hinegard- ner, business manager: Joe Thornton, Patti Hughes, Pat Hoover, Cleda Mil- ler, Bernadine Davis: and Florence Rambo, advertising solicitors. Evelyn Wade, Joyce Young, and Patti Hughes were associate editors of the Lagondan. Nuel Hinegardner was business manager. All the class compiled material for the Lagondan. Miss Thelma Bussard instructs jour- nalistic writing, and sponsors both Page 27 publications. l PRINTING The printing department of W.H.S. offers classes to ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students. English Echoes, the Winfield Ora- cle, the Lagondan are printed by the students of the printing classes. Most printed forms used in administration of the Winfield Public school and pro- grams used by high schools organiza- tions are also printed in the school shop. The production staff includes Har- old Brooks, Dwight Kelley, foremen: Raymond King, Stanley Becker, Leon- ard Lierman, Dwight Wheeler, make- up-men and pressmen: Jane Duncan, Wayne Finney, Isabelle Kelley, David Beltz, Bennie Sallee, Rose Foskett, Billy Winger, Margaret Groene, Virginia Funk, Dale Schuyler, ad compositors. James Ryan is instructor in printing.
