,.,-11, Page 20 ORCHESTRA The high school orchestra is composed of about 70 mem bei s. The theater orchestra also provides music for the plays given during the year. In the spring of '41, after the Lagondan had gone to press, the Winfield high school Music department went to Topeka for the National District music contest and came through with high honors winning 19 hiizhly superiors. Everyone of the instrumental organizations entered in the national received a rat- ing 1. By virtue of these winnings, the band and orchestra lay titular claim to national championship through 1942-43 since the national contest was cancelled for the duration. Aside from the concerts and band are many and varied. which high light the season the activities of the orchestra

VOCAL MUSIC 22 'NJN Miss Genevieve Huckstep directed the choruses of Winfield high school in an event- ful year. On Dec. 16 the Christmas concert was held which displayed the many achievements of the groups, and a Sunday afternoon concert was held in April. The vocal department consists of the following groups: A Cappella choir, advanced girls' glee club, junior high boys' and girls' chorus, girls' and boys' quartet, girls' trio, j i' junior high boys' sextet, senior high girls' small ensemble, mixed quartet, mixed small en- semble, and junior high girls' sextet. Several of the groups and soloists attended the District contest at Wichita April 24-25.
