' , ...r ,, .1 1 -- i' a..t..-fn ' ' .mr ts. .rss .I Peterson Stewart Bernstorf Meek Lopez With the faculty making the final selection on a basis of qualities of leadership, participation in various activities, dependability, scholarship, and personality the five honor students for the class of '42 are Emily Bernstorf, Rafeal Lopez, Marcella Stewart, Jack Peterson, and Annabelle Meek. Highlights of the various activities of these five seniors who are to present the commencement exercises May 14 are given here. Emily Bernstorf--Emily belongs to the Alpha society, senior high orchestra, president of senior high Girl Reserves, pep club, Little Theater orchestra, and International Friendship club secretary, 1939- 40. She participated in five high school plays and has represented the school in state scholarship con- tests. She was awarded first prize of Kansas State D.A.R. Good-Citizenship essay contest this year. Rafeal Lopez- Rafeal is a member of Alpha society, president of Scribblers' club, a creative writ- ing group, editor of English Echoes, and Honor Rotarian for 1939-40. This year he was active as the sports editor of Oracle and co-editor of the sports section of the Lagoindan. He represented the school in the state scholarship in American history and was awarded boys' medal this year for American legion good citizenship award. He has participated in many state scholarships and is a skilled sheet metal worker. Marcella Stewarte-Marcella is a member of Die Beste society, Girl Reserves, International Frieiid- ship club, and pep club. In junior high she was secretary of the student body and president of Intelha- tional Friendship club. This year she was active as program chairman of senior Girl Reserves and pres- ident of the International Friendship club first semester. She has participated in six high school plays, won honors three times in state scholarship contests: also she won the Woman's Federated clubs Pilgrim- age to Topeka in her sophomore year. She was awarded the American Legion good citizenship medal this year. Jack Peterson-Jack belongs to the Philo society, Hi-Y, and is a Junior Statesman. He is active in Boy Scout work, being an Eagle Scout with one palm and mate of Explorer patrol, president of senior class. elected attorney-general of Sunflower Boy's State in 1941, member of football, golf, and debate teams, and active in high school War Efforts committee. He was chairman of distribution of defense literature for Winfield Boy Scout organization. He has also represented the school in scholarship contests. Annabelle Meek-Annabelle is amember of the Philo society, orchestra, Scribbler's club, secre- tary of Philo society, and vice-president of Scribblers' club for 19-10-41. She is also a member of Ark Val- ley championship debate team 1940-41, winner of Ellis citizenship contest in 1941, and B. P. essay contest this year. She will represent the senior class as one of the attendants to the May queen at Southwestern. She has received speech scholarships from Friends and Phillips universities. g ..4L
