FRESHMEN FOOTBALL The 1985-86 Freshmen football team had an outstanding and unde- feated season. The team members showed a lot of enthusiasm and skill for being such young players. One possible rea- son for their success was the experience gained playing football together in middle school. The team ended the season with a 6-0 record. tFront rowT Tommy Blackburn, Anthony Payne, Chris Zuspan, Pat Hedrick, Alan Bowman, Eric Whitney, Darin Pauley, and Troy Smith tRow ton Brian Bai- ley tmngrL Robbie Bird, Shane Greenlea, Michael Strope, Jamie Cunningham, Mike Stump, Jim Williams, and Jeremy Brown tmnng tRow threeT Jim Parsons, Joey Wagner, Mark Mea- dows, Wendell Samson, Toby Wells, Craig Brown, Jeff Ban- nister, and Frank Allen tBack rowT Coach Tribble, Jess Kuhl, Tony Gibson, Scott Cobbs and Coach Mul- lins tTop lefo Jimmy Wil- liams receives a pass for more yardage. tTop righo Craig Brown helps psych up the team before a game. tFar lefO The defense holds the opposition. tLefO Jeff Bannister runs for yardage. 95

'3 COACH SURPRISED i u 'l? ot only was Coach Tribble surprised with this yearls girls basketball team, but so were a lot of other people including the players. At the beginning of the season, I was surprised tat how well the team playedi, but near the end of the season when I knew what the team could do, I was a little disappointed with our performance? said Tammy White, co-captain. The other co- captain was Karen Crosier. The Lady Generals ended their season with a 10 and 11 record, placing second in the countywtournament. Tammy White, Kim Clark, and Karen Crosier were named to the all county team. They were also named to the all conference team along with Lee Ann Melton. One of the more exciting games of the season was against Pt. Pleasant at Win- field. It was a close game from the very beginning. In the final seconds of the game, with Winfield down by one point, Tammy White hit two free throws to give the Lady Generals the win. During one stretch of the season the Generals had many problems with injuries to key players. Crutches seemed to be the fashion among the girls this year. Coach Tribble had this to say about his team, uI was pleased with the perform- ance of the entire team. We were at a disadvantage in size in nearly every game, but we made up for it with heart and hustle. Our two seniors, Tammy and Karen, will be greatly missed. tKneelingl Ginger Kester, Darla Anderson, Lee Ann Melton, Kare Crosier, Sheri Kester, Kristi Justice, Leslie Downing, and Jackie Chamber 94 lain tStandingi Shannon Craigo, Connie Smith, Paula Gibson, Criss DuVall, Kim Clark, Tammy White, Carrie Boucher and Coach Charli Tribble
