A one month delay, caused by the loss of the stadium light poles during shipment, didn 't cause the excitement to fade. The first pep assembly after the stadium opened had the theme, We're expecting a victory in the new stadium. The cheerleaders wore diapers and passed out candy cigars. The new stadium has cut down on parking prob- lems during the games because of the high school parking lot. Construction of the bleachers began in the spring of I 979 and was completed in late Septem- ber. The stadium seems to have brought luck to the Wizards, as they finished the season with a 6-3 win- loss record. .QQ Anxious crowd awaits for the spirited pep assembly to begin at the new stadium Band prepares to play for the Homecoming festivities. Coach Marsha Raymond led the girls to a I I-8 overall record for the yeatz l think the team did a tremendous fob, she commented. This year's starters were Tammy Buxmann, Chris Gersic, Andrea Lind, Sandy Schlagel, Lori Rutz, and Laura Trettenero. The most improved players were 5andy Schlagel and Mary Brown, and holding the position of the most valuable player was Andrea Lind. An- drea ended her 4 years as a basketball player holding school records in every category except febounding and assists. The team goals for the year were to improve defense, ha ve good sports- manship, place Hrst or second at the sub-district tournament, be undefeated in league play. and to hold the opponents under 37 points each game. Coach Raymonds philosophy is, To help each individual in skill and social skills, and this philosophy helped guide the team to a Hfth place finish at the tournaments. l feel for this team that this was an accomplishment and that we came back and beat some teams that we had lost to during the regular season, commented the Coach. Next year a strong team is foreseen. We can only go up. so hopefully we 'll im- prove. Top row: E, Shockley, K. Wegner, A. Lind. 5. Casteel, C, Kovalcik. 2nd row: D, Allard, 5. Schlagel, L. Rutz, C. Wrestlers On The Move This year's Windsor Crunch Bunch did an outstanding job by improving the team 's win- ning record from last year. Coach Parra and Asst. Coach Duran instructed the team to a final 6 and 9 record, and helped James Gilsdorf take first place at Districts and a ticket to State. Coach Parra felt that the wrestlers were missing some aggressiveness and self-confidence, but overall he replied l think they did fairly well: they improved, but I still don't feel that we worked to our potential. The most improved wrestlers were Ray Miller and Doug Thoutt. The best winfloss records were held by James Gils- dorf with a I 6-3, and Ray Miller and Tom Bux- mann both with I3-7 overall records. James Gilsdorf was also named to the All Welco Wres- tling Team. Coach feels that for next year, A lot of our team success depends on attitude, but we do have the potential. K '57 J 'if Q 3 5 . A.. Windsor Tankers Have A Good Season The Windsor Boy's Swim Team did a great job of improving themselves this year. Senior Darrel Brunner was the best backstroker in the district, while Tim Clarke took championships after be- ing beaten throughout the entire season. The relay team also won championships. Coach Up- tons goal is to bring the kids along as far as they can go and hopefully qualify one or two for state. The most improved were Mike Shreve, swimmer, and Tom Corbiere, diver. The out- standing swimmers were Darrel Brunner, Tim Clarke and Brian May. The only thing the coach felt the team didn 't ha ve was enough swimmers. l 'd like to have a team of 20, commented the Coach. Overall Coach Upton said the team did exceptionally well except that he was disappointed that sen- ior Darrel Brunner didn 't make it to state. l was pretty satisfied with the development of the team said Coach Upton. Seven Qualify For State This year's Boys' Track Team consisted of thirty track members, which is the largest group to come out in seven or eight years. Coach Harsin spoke very highly of his team, I 'm extremely pleased, we prob- ably showed the most potential and the best balance than any other team in the past, he commented. The leading scorer of the team this year was Larry Rutz. He also took seventh in the 440 at State. The most im- proved members of the team were 5teve Lind. Teo Lopez and Colin Morey. As for next year? Coach feels the team has a very good potential and could be a very good track team. He said they may not be out- standing but they can be very good. V71 C' 'iris 'im Top row: D. The girls took third at State and Hnished Hrs! or second in every one of the meets during the season. Coach Cole 's Philosophy is, to get the team mem- bers in the best shape possible to compete, and to set an atmosphere that is fun as well as knowing there is a time to work: also to try to have the girls set goals and hopefully meet them during the season. Coach feels that the whole team deserves the most im- proved position. because everyone improved their techniques and times throughout the season. As for the most valuable player and the most point contri- buter. this honor dehnitely goes to Michelle Kruger for her tremendous efforts and outstanding accom- plishments. Even though the team won 't have the benems of this year's seniors, Coach hopes to get some promising freshmen and she feels that the mem- bers that were on the team this year ha ve very good possibilities for next year. Coach Baird felt that Kirk Young, James McCarthy, Ken Uhle, and Mike Hergenreder all did a good job for the team. He said that he felt the team as a whole could ha ve done better and even though it was disappoint- ing at the beginning of the season, they finished out strong at the end of the season. Mike Hergenreder and Scott Skeen proved to be the two most improved players. The teams main goal was to win the Welco with Coach Baird's philosophy, which is to put the extra effort into it and do everything possible to win. M 2 1 .wg as C .Ax ,jg f . :wi Eighty-four Seniors Graduate To some, the end ofa school year is merely the end of another school day: but to the seniors, it is a very unique period - a time when they will be weaned from the security of high school life, thus passing through the first of many phases of adult life. During their stay at WHS, the class of '80 has seen many transforma- tions, but perhaps the most striking occured quietly within themselves. The more than 4,000 trying yet thought-filled hours they sat through brought about a maturation of their abilities of understanding, cooper- 'Alu ation, and patience. Unknowingly, the seniors have instilled the effects of these lessons in the minds of underclassmen by their examples, as a play actor might be for an understudy. For those reasons, the school known as Windsor High will always remain in the minds and hearts of these seniors. As the day comes to a close and the class of '80 retires its class spirit, we wish them the best of luck in the future that awaits them.
