Roy (Trigger) Bremnes-18 years old, dark brown hair, blue eyes, 5'8 tall and 136 pounds (when he's not starving for wrestling!!). Our thanks to the Friends of Foreign Students for sponsoring another Norsky for us from Sortland, Norway. Roy is staying with the Duane Amess family. It seems that his brother Dick started calling him Trigger, (does it have anything to do with Roy Rogers??) and it just stuck. Actually, Roy's home town in Norway is Andenes, found on an island surrounded by mountains and fjords. He is the oldest child in his family, which consists of five brothers, two sisters, mother and father. He had never left Norway before coming here to Windom and he said that he was a little afraid that people here wouldn't be friendly. That sure was the wrong idea! Roy is enjoying his stay here very much, with all his countless friends. This year in school, Roy has taken Driver's Ed., Cultural Dimensions, U.S. History, Physics, English 12, and Senior Choir. Does he like WAHS? I really like not having so much homework as we do back home'! Roy approves of our school very much. One thing that he likes alot is the fact that sports, choir, band, etc., are connected with school- that isn't possible in Norway. As a result, Roy was in Cross Country and wrestling, maybe track or tennis. What an asset to our guy's teams! Roy is very interested in photography, and you can find him in Camera Club, taking pictures for the Tatler and Eagle. Besides being involved with many school activities, Roy is a regular at the ALC, where he sings in the choir and Maranatha. He really likes the adult Sunday School classes, too. As can be expected of a Norwegian, Roy loves winter, and he is a speed ice skater and a cross country skier in his spare time. Roy stuffs himself with foods such as hamburgers, pizza, turkey, and coffee, which are his favorite foods here. One thing that he misses is eating alot of fish. When Roy returns to Norway, he'll have one more year of school at the Sortland Gymnas. He likes science and math. Some day he wants to either be a teacher, or study theology. Roy is kept so busy here, that he's never homesick. He does write home every week though. Will we ever see him again? Roy wants to come back to the U.S. some day. He wants to do alot more traveling. Best of luck always, Roy!! 29

CHIAKI KATO This year Windom has the pleasure of entertaining a lovely exchange student from Japan. Chiaki Kato came to us through a Youth For Understanding Program. Chiaki left her city of Nagoya and her family to come to the U.S. for a year. Nagoya is a large city about 150 miles north of Tokyo. Her family consists of her mother, who writes for a newspaper, her older sister, her grandmother and her grandfather. She says she has traveled before but never outside of Japan. In Japan Chiaki attends a Catholic all-girl school. The length of the school day is as long as ours, but she must go to school on Saturdays also. She finds our long weekends more to her liking. Many interests occupy Chiaki's time. They include watching T.V., listening to records, reading novels, and eating. She especially enjoys music and art and she has shown herself to be quite talented in these areas. Chiaki is becoming rapidly Americanized—hamburgers are one of her favorite American foods. She likes most of the new foods she's encountered, not pickles or school hot lunch. The landscape and the people of this area have impressed Chiaki. She is extremely excited about seeing lots of snow. Perhaps she'll change her mind after experiencing a Minnesota winter! As for school, Chiaki giggled, I like English. It's funny...and Mr. Lindaman is funny! She is taking a variety of other classes. When Chiaki returns to Japan, she will complete her final year of high school. Following that, she hopes to go to college. She would like to study languages—Japanese and English. Chiaki is living with the John Galles on River Road. They are as pleased to have her here as is the rest of Windom. We will all miss Chiaki when she leaves.
