Adrian was immediately immersed in soccer at a young age as his father played semi-professional soccer with Margate Football Club and often brought 77-Xdrian to games. -His sister, Mel, also proved to be athletically gifted as she would later achieve Olympian status while serving as the captain of the Great Britain's field hockey team 'Che tragic loss of both parents at young ages has served as a propelling force for Adrian towards a focus on both coaching and playing sport, as well as family. 'lfhroughout his high school years, Adrian balanced his studies with training and playing soccer. Adrian represented local soccer teams such as Folkestone, Ashford Town, -Herne Bay, Canterbury City and Margate during his teenage years, yet always dreamt he would be recruited by a league team. Un November 1991, this dream became a reality when he was invited to train with Chelsea in their Academy. -I-le worked extremely hard and was also recognized by Cngland when he made his debut for the schoolboys against Switzerland. ,At age nineteen, ,Adrian was recruited to play soccer at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia. While earning a Bachelor's degree in -Health Science from this academic institution, Adrian also served as a four year starting goalkeeper and three year Captain of the men's soccer team. -He was the 1995 Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the year and progressed to play professional soccer with several organizations, including the Richmond Kickers and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. 'Caking a brief detour from soccer, Adrian spent the following eight years coaching Division 1 field hockey at Virginia Commonwealth Ulniversity. -However, he finally succumbed to the incessant pull of his original passion of footie and accepted a soccer coaching position at Randolph Macon College in 77-Xshland, Virginia for one year before being recruited to the Winchendon School and relocating to Massachusetts in 2006. Adrian currently serves as the varsity head coach for the men's soccer team, assistant athletic director, ULS. history teacher and dorm parent at the Winchendon School and truly enjoys the student interactions each of these positions affords. --.. , .--Q - -V-1-W Y., ,,,.,, V :W , Cyan: ,W-.. 1 V --e,f5.4.::.f:-Q,-ff.u...1-,ua-f...e,.-C- ... .,...z- ---- ..,....-,,,.....::::1:1,-,---M f...,zJ:,f:g,-M., . ,.z,:.:ee1:f:.-.L-:f:z.u......f-1 ml' -si Currently, Adrian is working towards a master's degree in sports administration and coaching and is confident he will always find himself in a coachingfteaching role. -I-le spends his free time coaching soccer in an Olympic development league, playing soccer in a local men's league, and spending time with his family. ,ZX true sport fanatic, Adrian can also be found playing golf, soccer, hockey, field hockey, rugby, cricket, mountain biking, tennis Gust to name a fewj on the Winchendon campus when he is not engaged in his professional responsibilities. 97-Xdrian and his wife, Megan, met while working together in a restaurant in Virginia and found their way to Las Vegas five years later to receive wedding nuptials from Elvis himself. 'Cheir son, Quinlan, was born in 2010 and is a proud big brother to the newest Clewlow, Stella, since Hanuary 2011. !Xdrian's favorite motto being, Never let them be glad to see your back on the way out, he strives to make every experience enjoyable and worthwhile, an approach that is evident in his interactions with faculty and students alike. pnng ll f 111-M ' ' 7-. km I 4 rm 1' b' gm XM, 4 7 x ssf' W 3 -f .f A 'lr - tg 4 y W JA . q u4g.N.gf in fsiuq, A 1 v wi 'Y Qu-aff-us -,rg .' After all, a number of us were freshmen together! We arrived together in 2008, not knowing many others on campus and trying to find our way. We quickly became part of this wonderful School, and the members of the class of 2012 have been trailblazers in many ways along the way over the last four years. Of course there are the oddball and fun events such as the evacuation in the ice storm in the fall of December 2008. But you have done much more to move our School fonfvard. A number of you were founding members of a variety of new sports, including the women's ice hockey, soccer, lacrosse, and softball programs. Others sang or played in new music groups. Very importantly, you are the first class to go through the six-semester cycle of Global Dynamics, our groundbreaking, multicultural journey. And you have been part of the technical transformation of our campus as we have learned how to thrive in a digital world and even live in the cloud! You haven't just been students acquiring a full complement of the tools and skills that will allow you to thrive in college and beyond, but you have also been innovators and pioneers. I hope that thisVestigia will senfe not just as a reminder of the many friends that you have made here and the fun that we have had together, but more importantly will remind you of the spirit and the character of your class as pioneers, innovators and a group that helped propel The Winchendon School fonlvard in many, many ways. It is now time for you to go forth, relying on all that you have gained and developed here in your time at Winchendon. Move on, innovate, challenge the status quo, be pioneers and make other communities better as you have done at this School. And come back home often. There are many of us who will miss The Winchendon School class of 2012. John A. Kerney Head of School LABS ENIORS F' 012 Charlotte Agostinelli Throughout my past four years at Winchendon, I've realized that I've gained a lot more than just a high school education. I've gained a greater sense of who I am, I've gained friendships that will forever rest in my heart, and most importantly, I've gained a broader perspective of the world. There are countless memories, good and bad, that I've made here that will always stay with me as I move on to the next chapter of my life. Winch will always be a part of me. I want to thank those unique teachers who have made it their job to not only push me to be my absolute best, but also to be my friend when I needed one. I want to thank my best friend Jessica for never failing to bring out the crazy in me and for always supporting me, no matter what, I want to thank Ryan for getting me through the hard times here and for believing in me, and lastly, I want to thank my loving parents, who gave me the opportunity to reach my highest capabilities. I love you all so much. Ali Alasadi First of all, I came to The Winchendon School because of the bad situation in my country and l'm in the final year of my education in the high school so I don't want this year to be terrible and not safe for me. Fortunately, I heard about The Winchendon School that provides a multicultural atmosphere in learning and it has a special option to help the students who speak English as second language, Because of that I decided to attend this school, and I really find that what I heard about the school was really true from the first steps to attend to the school- admission procedure- in which the people that work in the admission were really helpful and always contacted with me by e-mail, priority maiI...etc, especially that I've attended the school late, because of that I was worried about If I can get along with the system, cover the classes that I've missed. But, everyone here is really helpful and help me to catch everything and now thank god everything is really a good experience for me to be in this community from different backgrounds for my future. Finally, I promise that I will do my best because I've found the best circumstances to achieve success. Davis Algra Howdy y'all, two words I cannot stand coming from Texas. To be so far from home and to be so comfortable where I am at. I want to thank my teachers to start with for trying to make me relaxed for being so distant from home. Especially to Mrs. Draugsvold for making me be myself, school would not be the same if she was not my teacher and not to Wuuw. overlook my family to motivate me to not give up. A shout out to my brother Jeff, an inspiration to me no matter where I go I miss you and to one person who I will never forget, Lauren Kelly, who made my first year at the Winchendon school remember able. Thank you! Saad AI-Sabah I've stayed in dorms of camps all around the world, from England to Switzerland to Austria, but I had the best experience of dorm-life here at the Winchendon School. In the summer camps, I used to room with my Arab friends because I didn't want to try to experience living with a foreigner. However, my first year here, I roomed with James Beard, a basketball player from Harlem, New York. I come from Kuwait, a tiny little country in the Middle East, so I don't know how fate brought two people from such different places together. I learned so much about him and where he comes from, and I learned so much about myself as to how I interact with people who are not where I come from, and I did just fine. After this experience, I learned to open up to new adventures and try out things that I never thought I would. Luis Arreola Sulaiman For three long years, life gave me a different insight of what the world is and what it holds for me. Being in my senior year in high school, I am amazed as to what has become of the people I grew up with, the people whom I truly lived with, and me, some of us with our designated faults and our virtues. Nonetheless, my years spent in the Winchendon School taught me to live life every moment to the fullest, to speak up for myself and for those I love and to mature my own being to become a responsible, compassionate, and proud adult. Winchendon is a place and an experience I will never forget about, including the people that taught me more than a class subject and the people who I made friends with. I want to thank my brothers, Pepe and Alex, for keeping me on track of what lies ahead and for always looking out for me. I love you Gorditos! There are many people in my heart that I have to thank, but the one I owe everything to is you, Mom. Without your support and your love, I would not have made it this far. Your nunito is growing up, Martha! Finally, my time to walk on my own will begin, but I will never forget where I truly come from- James Beard At 14, I traveled to Toy Town not knowing what to expect. Everything was different. Winchendon drove me to become a better student and made me grow up. IVIy teachers and classmates always had my best interest and hoped for my success. Thanks to them I have achieved that. I want to especially thank my best friends Gustave Koumare and Jack Humsey for always keeping me level headed and focused throughout the year. Coach Quinn for always keeping me motivated to reach my goal and to be the best student and basketball player I can be. Also, I want to thank some of the teachers that have stuck with me the most throughout my high school career: Mrs. Blair, my Winch mom, Mr. McDonald, Mr. Kerney, and Mr. Duncan. Thank you guys for always believing in me. Although it has not been easy, I would not change my Winch experience for anything. It made me who I am. Thank You. Q Q jf ' ' I' Malik Brown GOOD MORNING GUYS, GOOD MORNING. Mr. Duncan, our dorm parent, awakes us from our sleep. Jaffe 1 and 2, a dorm with two floors, a vending machine, a lounge with a piano and television, a multicultural environment, laughter, and conversations. My Jaffe friends, Tre, Nick, Jason, and Akosa, are the people who I negotiate with the most. They are my basketball teammates but also my brosg they make me feel more comfortable here at The Winchendon School because we have a lot to relate to. Basketball is my motivation to succeed, with a great leader in Coach Ouinn, and talented teammates. l am looking forward to having success in the classroom, and also with basketball in the 2011-2012 school year. Minye Chen The Winchendon School is a simple place but nowhere can replace it in my memory. As a senior, I will never forget the teachers and friends l met here. Mr. Johnson's passion in math, Ms. Bennett's vitality in life, Mr. Harvey's emotional appeal in class and Mr. Clewlow's amiableness in contact will stay in my memory forever. The unique experience to live with all my schoolmates coming from all over the world color my life and teach me a lot. My first year roommate, Maya, let me realize the America style and energetic teenager spirit. Thank you my school, thank you my teachers, thank you my friends. I will miss you. 4 tlwmw- No matter how brilliant we are, no matter what ethnicity we are, we are united together in this warm community. We shared, learned, and smiled here. We improved and prepared for college here. Got it. I was taught to say this after I understood the tricky math problem in lVIr. Johnsonfs class, who was my advisor last year, the one who inspired me to try to solve every problem in my life and to never give up. I just can't erase the memory of the Winchendon School. Being here for the past two years has been an enormous help for my future, and I will continue to challenge myself. No doubt, I will remember all the lovely faculty members and amazing students at the Winch. I love Winchendon! That's all I want to say to my school, the place I have lived for 2 years. I think I was lucky first year for I lived in Mr. Harveyis house. He is a really nice person and whenever I need help he is always around to give me a hand. He has a really nice house with a huge green lawn, and also there is a great lake nearby. I really enjoyed the time when I was in Mr. Harvey's house, and I will never forget him always walking like a penguin and saying I'm a happy man. Now I live in Merrell 2, and it is really nice that Mrs. Harris loves making cookies so that we usually have snacks during the study hall. I love Winchendon so much and I am pretty sure that these two years will be the greatest time in my life. Nathan Chretien My favorite Winchendon memory happened when I was a sophomore. There was a home game against the Brewster basketball team during Winter Carnival. The entire school was at this game to see the double overtime win. And that is my favorite memory because that is the one time l've seen the entire school at one sporting event. It's not often that Winchendon comes together in one place because we want to support our classmates, but that night in the gym the whole school came to support 18 guys in the community to cheer them to victory past the number one school in the country. Yingying Chu It is my second year here in Winchendon. Sometimes I cannot even imagine it is already the second year, because I am going to graduate soon. Last year was really fun. When I first came here, I did not like the place. There were so many Chinese students, and I hated this. I thought it was not good for me to improve my English. I did not like to talk with Americans and other foreigners. I spoke a lot of Chinese last year because I was not used to using English. Sometimes I thought that those Americans looked more mature than they were. Now, I believe l improved a lot. I talk much more than I did last year, and I am becoming more active. The only thing bothering me is that I get lower grades than last year, which gives me a lot of pressure. I am applying for college right now, but I am not sure about my future. I hope I can have a good senior year because it is so important for me. Hope everything will be OK. wma!- M .ui Thomas A. Coneys, Jr Walking up the steps, opening the first and then second door, I entered a room where it seemed everyone was looking at me. That was just my nerves. This was the first time I'd been at Winchendon, and I hoped it would not be my last, but it was the first of many days of nervousness and getting acclimated to Winchendon. Soon I realized how much I liked it, even with Mrs. Blair for English. Now that my time at Winchendon is coming to a close, I do not feel sorrow but rather appreciation for how much this school helped me grow. Thank you Winchendon. My time at Winchendon has been a very good one. I have had an unbelievable amount of laughs with my friends, something I will never forget. Believe it or not, most of these memories come from the hours spent on the tiny Winch buses that transport us to games hours away. To this day the phrase we're getting pizza is one that will be engrained in my head forever. Talking with my teammates about things that boredom brings about is something that I will always look back and laugh at. ...Sl 'rr tif I 'Ni' Connor Cranston Work hard and give em hell. My father has been saying this to me for as long as I can remember. Whether it has been on the ice rink or in the classroom, they have been good words of wisdom. I feel that coming to The Winch has changed me as a person. l have met a ton of new people and made great new friends. I did not really know what to expect in the first few weeks but, once I got settled in, I realized how lucky I was to be here. I owe it all to my family. My parents have worked so hard to guide me and give me things that they have never had. They have taught me that sometimes in life you have to go through rough times to make it to the other side. I would like to thank all of my family, friends, past teachers, coaches, and the faculty of The Winchendon School for their guidance and support. The time I spent in Winchendon School was the two years that impressed me the most. Not only because I learned English here, but also because I studied part of my life here. It also reminded me it's a place worth being thankful for. Thanks to my homestay mother, Ms. Harrington, thanks to my math teacher Ms. Van and thanks all the teachers in Winch, this big family. I will miss the snow here. 'Ok Q Alexis Doody I can't believe it's finally over! The four years of high school I once dreaded are gone in the blink of an eye. I never thought I would say that I am somewhat sad my time here is over. I will never forget my time at The Winchendon School. Looking back on the last four years of my life I realize I should have made the switch to The Winch long before I actually did. I will never forget the two great years I had at this school nor will I forget the people I have met. I have to give a shout out to my family, without my parents I never would have had the opportunity to come to this school. I love you guys. To my friends, you guys shaped me into the person that I am today, and I never would have made it through these last four years without you supporting me the whole way! All the students, weighed down with new books and jet-lagged filed in for the first all school meeting. As we all sat down and focused our attention to the front of the room, the song Party Flock Anthem broke out in the dining hall. As the student looked around in confusion, every teacher in the school ran out, dressed in a variety of different costumes, and began to dance. As the dining hall erupted in laughter, I thought to myself that this is exactly what the school, and myself need on a day like today. Hongjie Fu Having been at The Winchendon School for three years, I have really enjoyed activities with friends. The tall pine trees in front of Merrell blocked the sunshine, however, inside my room was always full of energy, movies, games, music, Chinese food, and even drastic arguments. Playing golf with friends was always a great event to dog a little competition would always make this sport much more amusing and enjoyable. With interesting teachers and nice size of classes, learning at school was an alternative nice experience. Anyway, it was a great time been a student at the Winchendon School. Matthew Gaiman Before coming to The Winch, I was simply a boy who had no friends and no life. Mostly, I would consider is if myself to be an outcast in a sense, I never fit in with ,W today's teens. There are many factors to this: my choice of music, favorite sports, experiences, religion, goals If S and even how I look at life. I view existence as a one- HD ,,,, v time opportunity. We will all die someday, and that will fm be the end of it. Seeing time as it is, really shows me M what my dad used to tell me is true, 'Optimism gets you nowhere! The Winchendon School has taught me how realism can solve any problem and make any decision. Now I say Realism over optimism. I will pass this on to my children as well. Today, I may still be an oddball, but I am known as Gaiman! Nothing can really describe the type of person I have become, but it is for the better. I am truly grateful to Mrs. Draugsvold for teaching me many things that I never was aware of. Thank you Mr. Patty for noticing a work ethic that will never die. Thank you to Mr. Kerney, Mrs. Baldini and Mrs. Blair for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime. To all of my fellow Winch comrades and my Merrill 1 brothers, keep trying new things. You never know what you could accomplish. Frederick Giroux Three years have gone by, and it aw feels like it was yesterday when I first W W drove up the road, looking at the golf course to go to my first soccer Y practice. Stepping outside of my comfort zone and going into an unknown environment full of new challenges was Winchendon. Leaving my native language behind, my family, my friends, and my routine, to bring my life to the next level. Thank you Winchendon for giving me this opportunity. Haiyun Guo I have been here for about three years. When I first came here, I felt very unadapted for this new environment and everything was new to me: new friends, new classes and new teachers, but now I can say that I am definitely a Winch student. I have gained a lot throughout these three years, not only friends but also knowledge. Winchendon School has taught me a lot. I love my school and my teachers. I really appreciate that school has educated me a lot. For the first year, I did not dare to talk a lot in the classes. It was Mrs. lvlilevskiy who taught me to speak aloud and not to be afraid of speaking English with people. Now I can communicate with English speakers very well and I can express my ideas well during the class. I have improved my English skill a lot and I appreciate those teachers who support me a lot. My school, Winchendon School, I will remember you forever. Ruoqi Guo I came to The Winchendon School last year. ljoined the summer school which is great. Mr. Bucklin and Mr. McDonald took us to many famous places and let us learn the history and culture of America. Summer school helped me a lot to be familiar with America and well prepared for learning at the Winchendon School. I lived in Mrs. Harrington's home stay at my junior year. That was really fun and comfortable. l appreciated that Mrs. Harrington gave me a wonderful junior year and helped me to make progress in my English. Also, thanks all the teachers in Winchendon School, thanks. The Winchendon School gave me a wonderful life experience. Patrick Harrington My years at The Winchendon School have been enjoyable. I have been at this school for 5 years and l have seen many things change in this school, a new headmaster, new buildings, and plenty of new students. I have seen a lot of students come and go in these five years and it would be impossible for me to name everyone that has helped me over the years. This school has been a wonderful experience for me and I can't imagine how my life would be if I never came here. Although I am sad to leave this school, I am also glad to begin the next phase of my life. Allegra Harvey Approximately six years old with curly, glowing, white hair and a pink frilly dress, I walk down the green carpet of the Winchendon School cafeteria. With the widest grin imaginable I say hi and see the familiar faces brighten up the moment they see me, making friends with each new word I utter. As I glance up at the soda machine wishing that I were tall enough to reach the glasses, a young hero of a man lifts me up and helps me through the process that otherwise would have been impossible. After being a part of the Winchendon School community for almost 17 years and collecting millions of memories similar to this one, it's inevitable that I come to the conclusion that the Winchendon School is my home. I grew up here and watched everything change. Without this school I don't think that I'd be the person that I am today. I gladly wonlt have the chance to miss it though because I'II be here all the time. t'I4g Anna Harvey As the day students of old told me they would, my five years at the Winchendon School all blend together, but I'II always remember day student volleyball, working with the big friendly giant flvlr. Shattuckt in the greenhouse, and all of my amazing Spanish classes with lVIr. Hanley, the best dad ever, and lVIr. Williams. I met my Korean brothers at the Winch, and for that I will be eternally grateful to the school, no matter how many times I was forced to climb lVlt. Monadnock. I'm thankful for the Harrington family, lVIr. Shattuck, Mr. Johnson fthanks for the fish and the mathl, lVIr. Chretien, and the Draugsvolds. Richard Haskell Finally, what looked to be a winning lacrosse season had hit in the 2011 season. Our previous season was plagued with fights, team drama, and a 2-18 season record, and we were firing on all cylinders to start off year. We had come close to ten-goaling our rival Cushing and spirits were up and the playoff mustaches were growing in, but maybe not for me. My roommate Jordan Saunderson had grown mustache during the hockey season with the help of facial hair dye. The ugly hair above his upper lip was all I wanted for my appearance. I was not alone in having this desireg Chad Saulnier, my neighbor and good friend also wanted to join the lacrosse team in this stylish statement of classy achievement. Before long we had purchased the hair dye necessary to create this look. Directions read, and precautions ignored, we applied the pasty dye to the lack of dark hair on our upper. The paste went on easy and the burn was bearable...but only temporarily. lt appeared that the more time the dye remained on our skin, the more difficult it was to remove. These memories, however painful and embarrassing, are nights that I will never forget. As far apart as we grow, I will always feel as close to these two brothers as I did in front of that mirror as we applied our mustaches to our faces. Thank you Winchendon. Zeyu Hu I feel I went to the right placeg the right school. Now I am working hard every day, and prepare stuff for college. I want to go to a good college, so I will work harder in school from now on. ff if David Jaramillo I want to thank God for such an experience and opportunity. I want to thank my parents, whom I love with all of my heart, and who made this possible. I want to thank all the people who were there for me and supported me. Friends of 2010-2011 and 2011-2012, what great memories! I will presenfe them forever. I will not forget the diversity of personalities of all the faculty members. I want to thank that special person who gave me strength throughout my two years at the Winchendon School. Finally thank you Winch for raising me as a person! You could say that the Winchendon School is in the middle of nowhere. You could say that the school is overwhelmingly boring at times. The truth is, Winchendon for me has been a growing experience. Before coming to this school, being a leader was a quality I lacked. As the days, weeks, and months passed I have learned to be a leader on the court, as well as in the classroom, and in the community. Interacting with all the students in Merrill and in the whole school taught me new facts I never knew before about different places in the world. An international school is what I call it. Where people from all around the world are brought together by friendship, education, sports, and extracurricular activities to become one family. The Winchendon School. Gustave Koumare I made it! The many challenges of high school, feeling like I was never going to finish, the time is finally here. Although the challenges will never end, I've reached a milestone in my life, and I'm happy for what I've accomplished so far. There are many people who have supported me throughout. I would like to think my Godmother and Aunt, Leeza Nasser and Bintou Coumare, for raising me and molding me into the young man I am today. I would also like to thank Mrs.Baldini for giving me the chance to flourish at the Winchendon School even though I struggled my first year. I have learned a lot from the Winchendon teachers and will take these lessons with me into college, helping me with other obstacles I will stumble upon. Once again, thank you to everyone who believed in me. Soo Jung Lee I don't know how I came to the Winchendon School. lVly aunt who lives in New York found the Winchendon School and sent me here in the spring of 2010. There are many international students here so I could make friends from different countries. I felt very friendly with every Winchendon student and faculty membersg especially Ms. Harmsen who was my advisor in junior year. When I saw her anywhere, she was always singing for me like sooooooeywsoo soo soooeyw I always felt thankful to her for giving me energy every single day. I also want to thank my only Korean sister Sumin for make me laugh every day. I will never forget my global Winchendon family. W I .IT Olivia Leon Attending The Winchendon School was an experience that I will never forget. Having only one year at the school has already taught me so much about what really matters in life and how I can achieve what I want and compete at the best of my ability. l've met some amazing adults and friends that have helped me to be the best person I can and I can't thank them enough. Having the chance to play soccer again was incredible. Hanging up the cleats after 5 years of playing as a child, I was still able to pick them back up 4 years later. This year overall has brought me through ups and downs and has taught me, whether it be dealing with sports or education, anything is possible as long as you work your hardest to achieve it. Chuangwei Li IT As a student, I don't have any great event to talk about, but here I want to share my experience of preparing for college at The Winchendon School. During the first three years of junior high school, we were very happy and free, and I still remember my first American friend, Carlos. He is a very kind and easy going person. We lived in cottage, the best dorm ever. I could feel the house was warm and filled with energy because we were just like brothers taking care of each other and had a great cooperative spirit, such as some school activities and sports, dorm work and making jack-o'- Iantern. Even though we had a few arguments, those events increased our brotherhood. - Luan Li I am not an outstanding student of Winchendon, but you are the most respectable school to me in my eyes. On this special day, I extend my heartfelt respects to my school. I love this school. I am Luan Li and I am a senior this year. I will leave this school, but I will miss this school. No formula can be used to calculate your devotion, no poems and songs to express our heartfelt gratitude to the school. It is the Winchendon school that cultivate our minds with school extensive knowledge and school noble spirits. On this special occasion, please accept our best wishes. .4-Us f - A .fi Sicong Li Two years ago, I did not know why I had been sent to this place I did not even know. I did not like it before. Then I realized Winch is like a big family. All of the teachers and students here are family members. They really helped me a lot with study, sport and the most important thing--find myself in this big world. I had the best two years in Winch. It is going to be the best experience in my life. I really appreciate it. lim, Mr' Ching Chieh Lin The cab driver asked me why I was here since I was in the western part of the United States one year ago. I was unable to answer this because I had no idea why I was here, or why I had to be here. It was late June in 2010, I was a new student in this school, The Winchendon School, the middle of nowhere. I started to love it here: the dorm life, the sports time, especially snowboarding. The Winchendon School made me feel comfortable as if I was back in my homeland or back west in Idaho. Now, for me, Winchendon has become my third hometown. Jiandong Liu My student career at Winchendon is over, but my Winch soul never leaves. I bled green. Wapiti is tattooed in my heart forever. It would take the whole book to mention the names of all I want to appreciate: lVIr. Romano-Meade was the first teacher I met when I came here. He answered all my questions very patiently. lVIr. Williams was my dorm parent. He was very nice and generous to me through all three years. We also had a great time in Shanghai when he traveled to China. Mr. Bucklin was my first advisor. His active class fascinated me. lVIr. Clewlow was also the one who inspired me a lot His awesome quotes were always classic such as They will sink as fast as the Titanic. Ivls. Nguyen was my second advisor. She was very easy-going and helped me sew my vest. GIVIG, so many hilarious and fabulous memories flash through my mind. How can I say how much I love this place and these lovely people? I never want to say goodbye, and I'lI be back. Time is flying away like lightning, incredibly, I will make a farewell to my friends and teachers. To remind events that happened in the Winchendon lets me find some subtle alteration. I learned howto use English to communicate with schoolmates, instead of only using it for tests. I have been studying in Winchendon School since I was 16 years old. Three years of my youth have been dedicated to this school. I will never forget F1, West Wing and F3, rooms where I Iivedg I will never forget all my friends who we worked hand in hand to succeed and I will never forget all my teachers who taught me precious knowledge and taught me to be a beneficial man for our society. Time does not water down the wine of friendshipg distance does not separate our hands of longing. Wishing all my friends and my teachers joy forever. From Winchendon School, I walk straight to my goal and struggle for the boon of Human and earth. Jason Lusengo If there is one thing I will cherish forever from being in this situation are all of the friendships that I've made. The bond I have created with not only my teammates but with all those who live in Jaffe will never be forgotten. All the cultures, stories, laughs, and complaints have made this year memorable and have changed me for the better. Being a PG here at the Winch has truly been a sacrifice as projected, but a sacrifice which will better the next four years of my life in return. lt's sad to say but being here, away from home, has truly made me appreciate the beauty of being home. Jessica MacLennan I am only graduating. lim not going to fall off the edge of an endless cliff when my time at The Winchendon School is up. Even though I will be uprooting my life and starting a new chapter in the life of Jessica MacLennan, I will return again to see the people who have impacted me and I thank you for that. I have to give a shout out to my parents and grandparents Mom, Dad, Mimi, and Papa, love you guys! If it weren't for you all I wouIdn't be here. The people who were important to me, I know will remember me, and all the crazy times we have shared. As will I. There is no need for such a final remark for the reason that this is not goodbye. Although I will grow old and will go on with living the rest of my adult life, the lessons l've learned here and the people who influenced me the most will always be the foundation of the person I will become. Akosa Maduegbunam You was right, people want you to be miserable with themf' We were miserable, with our first encounter with the Wapiti Nation, and we took misery and turned it into a classical story. None of us guys, Tre, Malik, Nick, and Jason had ever experienced an opportunity like this one before. With our first couple of months here, we would complain from sunrise to sunset, not knowing that we were investing in a strong brotherhood bond. Coming to Winchendon, l've met people from all over the country and world with different backgrounds. This opportunity has allowed me to appreciate the finer things in life, and certainly one of the finer things are sharing stories with others and noticing the facial expressions of similarities and differences. Not in a million years, did l think l would have as much fun and charisma playing e sports, eating food and sleeping under the same roof as these gentlemen These are the simple things or activities any group of guys would participate in, but we did it with the I don't wanna be here attitude, yet still managed to enjoy the tim here to the fullest. Life's a climb, but the view's great? Cannot wait to the next time l see you boys. Signing out, Kos Vladislav Markov Danyil Medvedev New friends, new slang, new experiences! All the unforgettable events made this year special. From listening to the song Turn my I swag on'I at 7 am when I have a sleep in until 10, to sitting shoulder to shoulder with my best friend, Ryan O'Toole, at 12 at night doing homework, and covering windows with blankets to block voices became as common as hearing: East Wing 1, turn the lights off please. From walking downtown with friends searching for common interests, to leaving all my strength at the gym and ice crowded with the words Fire lt , to realizing my dream of playing at a D1 School. It was a very enjoyable time with the teachers, coaches, advisors, friends, and I am very thankful to them. Good luck to all of you guys in the future. l, sl Bao Anh Nguyen The first time I went to Winchendon School was H in the 2011 summer school. When I attended S the summer school, I did not have any ideas 3 about coming back to Winch for the next school year, but the experience I had in summer school made me change my mind. Summer School at Winch is like a heaven for me, it S changed everything I thought about America. Life at Winch is happy and peaceful. I had happy six weeks in Winch in summer, this summer will be the best summer in my life. So I decided to go to Winchendon School for my senior year. Although there were some troubles for me in the beginning of the year, I really had wonderful time in Winchendon School so far. I study and gain my knowledge in a completely different and effective way. I am able to improve my English and to get a good education. I am also able to join soccer team, 4 work out for health, and make more friends in Winchendon School. At Winch, I really improved my knowledge and my health. I had a really good time in Winchendon School. ' P. In Ryan 0'Toole lVly experience at the Winchendon School has been unbelievable. I came here as a repeat .Junior seeking an opportunity to play College Hockey. This was my sole intention on coming to this school. Now that I will be graduating and leaving at the end of the year, I look back on my time here at Winchendon and I truly feel blessed to have met some of the absolute best people. From my beautiful girlfriend to the hockey bro's I truly have been blessed to have an opportunity to be in a community with all of these great people. I would not trade my time here for anything in the world. Alysha Raimo Has it really been four years? Wow! Time has flown by, filled with memorable f -is moments that all started when I entered the Winchendon School only 4 years ago with Lillian Braga, Olivia Agostinelli, and Jessica Maclennan. Shout out to all the good times we've had, going to miss you guys. For the people who have been there for me throughout my Winchendon experience, IVIs. Bennett, Ms.Penek and IVIr. Quinn, IVIr.DeIorme, Mrs. Blair and Mr. Kerney etc. Also, a shout out to Lauren Kelly for being the best roommate: Going to miss you. Playing three varsity sports teams, I will never forget the memories we had together, especially during the hockey season. Thanks to everyone for making my Winchendon experience as good as it was. Michael Restuccia I will miss the Winchendon School deeply There have been countless times where I said I hated it and complained but it benefitted me. Thank you to the teachers that helped me through everything in school and thank you to my coaches, especially Coach Hayes and Coach Sampson. One thing I will miss are those nights where I walk into my room and I have half the hockey team there playing Call Of Duty while, eating a buff chick. I will miss everyone yelling at each other because someone screened look. Thank you to Eric Werner and Ryan O'TooIe for being my roommate over the last two years. Thank you everyone. Lillian Ribeirmha Braga Over the past four years, The Winchendon School has sheltered and helped me develop as a person and a student. I have made many friendships here amongst faculty and students, and the close community has provided a cozy environment. Four years ago I was part of the inaugural team for women's ice hockey, and this year four of us will be graduating: Olivia Agostinelli, Jess Ivlaclennan, Alysha Flaimo, and myself. I will never forget how we stuck up for one other, and shared so many laughs. Mr. Delorme was the first person I met here at the Winch, and throughout my four years he has been a dependable faculty member who has made me laugh with his Canadian humor. Without IVIs Bennett, hockey would never have been as entertaining with her unique style of dance and her love for everyone. Both have helped me grow as an athlete, but also have helped develop my leadership qualities. Although I have been away from home my parents have always encouraged me to do well and have been there to support me every step of the way. lvlr. Kerney, thank you so much for my extraordinary experience here at The Winch, one I will always keep with me. Nicolas Ricard I just moved from Brazil to USA. I loved my experience in Winchendon so far. I came here with the intention to play soccer for the school, and I did. But I also did many other things that I didn't even expect. I made a lot of friends, from all over the world, I learned a lot with my teachers and coaches. I would like to first thank my parents, who gave me the opportunity to come here to America and study in Winchendon School. And I also would like to thank my coaches, teachers and friends who made this experience unforgettable. Thank you everybody. Celeste Robert will '15 Already over. The last three years flew by and I am already graduating. I had a great time here, I made strong connections and friends that I will keep forever. I will always keep Nikki close to my heart, she who was not only the best roommate ever, but also the bestest of best friend someone could ever have. I kept up the hard work and I accomplished much during my experience here. I will always remember my first hockey game in the Winch uniform, which was against Cushing. This was the first win of what became a wonderful season. Here I expanded my horizons, I used to be only a hockey player, but I've became much more. I became a student athlete, I fully engaged in classes and in new sports. This was a wonderful journey and I am sad that the end is already here. F .Q Yanke Shi Attitude change is really the hardest that I had to do when I came to Winchendon to study. Simple, easy life makes it easy to enter rational thinking, helping me to find the balance point in my life. I also got the really good friends in the school, that is the rare fate, even though this fate maybe cannot cover my life forever, I think the friendship can be forever, and Winchendon helped that commence. 9 E.. Glyne Straker f I have enjoyed the Winchendon School a lot. I learned a lot of new things and it has made me a better person. I have learned how to mature and learned how to be responsible for my actions. I will not trade the experience I got in the Winchendon School for anything in the world. This school will be placed in my mind forever. If Randi Sullivan My time here at Winchendon has been an experience to say the least. Leaving home for the first time has been a challenging adventure. Meeting new people from all around the world and being taught by knowledgeable teachers are examples of things l never would have encountered elsewhere. My time here has been short and sweet but has helped me grow as a person. As I move forward in my academic and professional life, my time spent here will forever be with me. Nw. E , it ATRG' r qmail i Ryan Sullivan A dream becomes a goal when action is taken toward its achievement. Michael Thlesmg I did not know what to expect as I traveled down the long road towards the Winchendon School. It was as if I was entering into a new world, a foreign place. I did not know anyone at Winchendon and was unfamiliar with the campus and being away from home. I was able to adapt quickly, though, with the help of my friends I have met. Most of my friends are hockey players like me, some who have been here for several years, while others are new and also trying to adjust. We hang out every day, whether it is going to class together, going to the gym, or playing video games in each other's rooms. We all have an amazing friendship that I think will continue even after our days at Winchendon. Without these people, I do not know where I would be or how I would have adjusted to this new school. Malcolm Thomas Although this is my first and only year as a student at the Winchendon School, someone doesn't have to be at the school for long to realize the tight knit community that Winchendon is for the students and teachers. In fact, it took me a mere few hours. On my first day in the school, I was greeted by teachers and students alike with immediate kindness, and the atmosphere projected an air of comfort. I knew from my first day that this school would help shape and prepare me for my future as a student and onwards. Tre Tipton For me Winchendon has been one more lesson learned in my short life so far. I came to Winchendon for one reason, to better prepare myself for collegeg mentally and physically. Aside from academics and athletics there are some other factors that you have to deal with at Winchendon. I have grown more mature since l've been at Winchendon because a lot is expected of me. Along with my rigorous class work, and grueling basketball workouts, I have to manage my time, and even my money. I truly believe I am molding myself into a man. Doing my own laundry, taking care of my own room, and making sure I take care of any obligations I have involve much independence and I feel I have grasped that concept thanks to Winchendon. Winchendon by no means is a place to come and have fun, however, I know this is what it takes to get to where I want to go in life. Holland Townsend The Winchendon School has made me the person I am today. Arriving here at the age of fifteen, I learned how to live on my own and not always depend on my mother for everything. The Winchendon School has taught me leadership and dedication, from being the captain of the volleyball team for two years, and undefeated tennis player for two years, and learning how to guide teammates who do not know the game as well as I do. IVls.Conlon always has good spirits, even if we are down in a game she will always be there to pick us up and get us focused on what we need to do. She has influenced my character and has given me motivation throughout my years at The Winchendon School This school has brought me friends that I will always keep in contact with: Jessica Maclennan, Brynne Ally, Olivia Agostinelli, Lillian Braga, Luis Sulaiman and more. We have all shared experiences that I will always look back on and laugh when I am older. I would like to thank my mother, Debbie, and my grandmother for showing me a different aspect of life and how to persevere through every situation. Duong Thuy Truong The first night I was here, it was like the worst day in my life because I expected a single room with a bathroom to share with only one more person like in IVIerriIl. But everything was so contrary to what I had imagined. I had a roommate, I had to sleep at the second floor for six weeks, and I was new here. However, my life here was getting better when I knew about this school, teachers, and friends. I didn't want to come back to Vietnam even though I missed my family, my friends and Vietnamese food so much. Now, I have been here for three months. Although sometimes I have lots of stuff to do, I feel free and happy. Because I know what I am doing and what I need to do. I have school work to do, information of colleges and universities to research to apply to, friends to chat with, and dreams to try to make come true. I cannot predict my future at Winchendon School, but I wouIdn't hope or expect less about my future. I don't believe in fate. I believe in what I can do, so I will do everything to make my future as well as I can. Douglas Usseglio .1 fig, - rx Q rf. Who would ever think I would climb a mountain? I know for sure I never thought it. Being at the Winchendon I've learned better time management and developed organization skills. Located in the middle of nowhere, the school makes everyone here seem like a big family, and makes it easy to feel a part of it. When I'm here I feel like I have a small group of brothers. We do everything together from lifting, basketball, or just hanging out inthe dorms, we are always with each other. We've grown so close that we thought to do something that has never been done by Winchendon students. We climbed Mount Monadnock in a hockey jersey and 'jorts , jean shorts. Probably the most uncomfortable feeling, walking 3,165 feet in jorts,' was not the smartest idea we've had. But running through mud, climbing up rocks, and jumping from edge to edge was the most fun I had in a while. I can always look back to that day and not only say that it was the first time I ever climbed a mountain, but that I did it with my close friends and we did it with style. W...:gw'i if Bence Mihaly Varga Since it is my first time in the USA there are several memories that I wonft forget. The warm- hearted welcome of the teachers in the school helped me a lot to get used to this different culture, system. As we have public schools at home l have never experienced such a luxurious way of education. The golf course, the ice arena and the gym are spectacular. I will remember working out in the gym with my friends. I was also amazed about the number of lessons per day here. I had a lot of time to make friends. I won't forget it. At home we have 8-9 lessons a day, which is a lot more. I will never forget the small-sized groups and the less formal way of teaching. Nicholas Victor Qmmhlv The Winchendon School has given me a leg up for my next year in college. My time here has helped me mature as a person and progress into a young adult. Although my year has been packed with work, I now realize the method behind the madness. From the grueling basketball practices, to the long hours of studying, to the morning workouts, I have mastered the art of time management. This trait will be crucial in college, especially as a student athlete, so I am very thankful for the experience. lVly time at the Winch has been a progressive year and has definitely prepared me for the bigger things that are to come. Jie Wan I came here for almost three years. Many memories happened in here: sad, happy, and sick. We live in a big community, best way to say this is that it is a big family. Our teachers are like our friends even kind of parents. We live in same dorm, and we meet people who from different cultures. The best part in Winchendon is that we make friends with different cultures no matter what language you speak or how well you know English. I enjoy the time I spent here. The first year, I came here, I felt strange because everything was new for me. And this was my first time being independent. After a few weeks, I adapted to this new place, I could handle many things except I would miss my family. I think I do well in being independent. I get many experiences during those three years. I would like to say the life of Winchendon is wonderful. rrit 'rw ,ville 'NM yr If if as W sr Q K' I wa. fit s, . . , ' sw' Bolin Wang Last year in September, I came to Winchendon School. Can I make some friends? Can I understand in the English environment? But when I came to Winchendon School and talked with my new teachers and my roommate, I felt I will have a good experience here. Now I have already adapted to this school. This is my second year, and also is my last year. I hope I can have more experiences and beautiful memories in the school life. I tr if IWW fi . Teachers here are very nice to meg they helped me to improve my English and let me join all the cool activities. For the past 2 years, I have achieved great academic success and have gotten to know many friends. I got used to everything in this big family, but it is quite sad I am going to leave everybody in this community. Eric Werner If W' As my senior year comes to an end, it is time to think back to my memories at the Winchendon School and what I am going to miss the most. Even though I have only spent two long years at this prep school, it has given me memories that I will remember for my entire life. Reflecting on my time here, one of my best memories was my hockey team's trip to Albany, NY last year. Even though students say they can't wait to be done with the Winchendon School, there will always be friends that will be missed. What I will miss the most about my experience at the Winchendon School are the close friends I have made between my roommate Michael Flestuccia and my hockey teammates who mean everything to me, so I am also going to miss them the most. Senior year will come to an end, but I will still have my memories and my closest friends. We Duo Xu Never thought of being attached to this place. Never thought of staying in boarding school for three years straight. The Winchendon School has been my third home besides Beijing and Los Angeles. IVIoving from one place to another isn't a simple task to achieveg friends have always been my main struggle whenever I move to another region. I yearn to stay in this tranquil small town with my own recollection of SuLi, Luna, Cherry, Amy, Patricia, and so many others. IVIy initial disappointment did not last long and melted as time went on and I became glued to these people and this magnificent environment. I will miss the times when I feel defeated, lost, contented, and excited whenever I hear any marvelous news coming from my friends. I belong both here and where my parents SIG. Kexin Xu lik at in I am a girl who comes from Sichuan China. IVIy name is kammi Xu. This is my second year in Winchendon. Now I am a senior who will graduate in IVIay 2012. I, who from a tender girl became an independent girl, changed a lot here. I will use everything the teachers in Winchendon taught me for my future life. When I think I will leave this place, I feel so sad. I made many good friends here, and I really don't want to leave them. I love Winchendon, which is my first home in America. Shun Xu Winchendon is my first boarding school, and it gives me experiences that I never had. Teachers always communicate with students and they love to say their names in different tones. For example, lVlr. Giusti was the first guy who called my name with a high and loud tone that can be heard from all around a building. He said my name came from a volleyball in a movie called Castaway. Working with my friends is extremely fun though, we laugh and make fun of each other, even sometimes lVlr. Karis, Pierce and I pretend to be mad to scare one another, and those are the most interesting moments l've had at Winchendon School. At the end, l'm very thankful to all of the Winchendon teachers, they are my best educators and closest friends ever! Yuanyuan Xu Life in Winchendon is so much fun. Everyone in Winch is friendly, they are happy for helping people. Teachers in winch always take care of the students, they treat us like friends, and we can share any troubles with them because they are always willing to help us. Winch has morning meeting, at that time we share the news in the world, announce the victories, or birthday wish to our friends, it is like a big family. Winch is my first American school, I am growing up with it. It is a good start. I will keep working with the experience I got from here. me 1' -r :IP I Q Last year I came to the Winchendon School. I learned a lot in this school, and I made a lot of friends. I love it here. This is why I stayed here. This year I am a senior and graduating. I am trying my best to work hard to get high Toefl and SAT scores. Maybe I will stay here another year. Thank you, Thanks for looking after me Thanks for having someone to look up to and admire Thanks for giving me time Thanks for giving me space Thanks for giving me advice Thanks for making me laugh Thanks for making me cry Thanks for making me sing Thanks for making me sigh Thanks for giving me everything you can Thank you. Days that I spent at Winchendon are unforgettable and worth cherishing my whole life. Days that I spent with the two Wong brothers. Playing in a school band with my brand new bass, and I did learn to play one song, Boulevard of Broken Dreamsv by Green Day. Movie trips to Gardner with the Wongs, Kristine, and Jiayi every Friday night last year. Every hole that I played on our golf course. Every time I skied down Wachusett Mountain with other skiers and snowboarders My favorite class with Ms. Conlon and eight other crazy writing workshoppers. Running with Mr. Duncan Marco, and other cross country teammates Great summer school times with Marek, Armen, Mariana Venus, Daisy, Chuangwei, Allegra, Bridget and Casey. And, of course, the best two years of dorm life living with Dad Mr. Williams and my East Wing and Jaffe 1 brothers. I can't list the best memories of life, but what I can express is my appreciation to every faculty member, all the friends I made here all the difficulties l've met that have shaped my personality. Thank You All. It is sad when you are familiar with every single brick of Winchendon and now you have to leave. Bye, Winch, you will always be remembered. My finger on the pulse of culture, my ear to the ground of philosophy, my hip in a narrow room in East Wing 2. I will always remember the laughing and exaggerated facial expressions of my dorm parent, Mr. Duncan. After initially feeling shy, I will never forget how some good friends here moved my hip out of my narrow space to enjoy the marvelous landscape in Winchendon. What I will cherish most from here is that I always have had time to do whatever I am interested in. My hip will appear in a college dorm next year, but that is not the end of my life in Winch- it is a beginning. I can use what I learned here to challenge my unpredictable future. President Lillian Ribeirinha-Braga Dear Winchendon School, I would like to congratulate the students, faculty, and all members of our community, on a great year. With a wide range of abilities, the season began on a shaky start. Under the leadership of captains Holland Townsend, Allegra Harvey, Marita Alfleri, and Jarylle Montevirgen, the team truly molded into one, with the first year players showing undoubted improvements. The team was really motivated this year and did a great job of collaborating to reach their goals, said Assistant Coach Magay. The team is proud of their final outcome as a result of playing hard and having fun! Showing her New England roots, returning player, Emily Vlllari said, lt was wicked good, when asked about the season. Her roommate, Maggie Lu, piggy backed on Villari's comment: We are the best ball team because we work hard and have fun. When asked to reflect on her junior year, Tian Yin, a second year veteran, said, lt's good! Very good! I liked it! The teammates are friendly, and we have learned to tie ourselves together. Townsend and Harvey both had exceptional years all around. Having worked with both Holland and Allegra the past two years, I am going to miss these girls tremendously, Coach Conlon said. Holland still amazes me with her talents, and Allegra has strengthened her skills greatly over the past couple of years. Townsend has been a vital member of the team for the past three years and unquestionably is the most valuable player, whereas Harvey just finished her fourth year and has been a guiding light for her teammates. Alfleri and Montevirgen provided the backbone to the team this season. With 3 ' at many returning players, Coach Conlon and Coach Magay are already looking forward to next year. With a bump, set, spike, junior captains Alfleri and Montevirgen are ready to hold up the team for the 2012!2013 season! by Marita Alfleri, Allegra Harvey, Jarylle Montevirgen, and Holland Townsend - Q L l 1. U W Girls' Var it occer This fall I was lucky enough to be welcomed onto the Winchendon girls' varsity soccer team. After hanging up my cleats five years ago, I was finally able to pick up the sport again. Our season was not as successful as the team had hoped, but it was a season that we will always remember. I was so fortunate to be able to be on a team with S . such great girls, and I developed wonderful friendships that will A hopefully last a lifetime. Having IVIs. Penek and lVIs. Stacy as our ,W it coaches was an awesome experience. They taught us that success I I will come with hard work and that it is not all about winning but having fun and working to your fullest potential. Both IVIs. The effort and attitude was one that raised the team to achieve important goals. Losing against tough teams like Northfield Mount Hermon, Phillips Andover, Bridgton, and Phillips Exeter served only to bolster the Wapiti belief in their abilities. These defeats revealed strengths and weaknesses within the team, something that the Wapiti worked to overcome. Important victories against respectable teams such as American International College JV, Cushing Academy, Tilton, Vermont Academy, and New Hampton gave hope and trust to the team. It was clear the team was moving in the right direction, lead by two positive and wise coaches, Adrian Clewlow and Christopher Williams. The team continuously built a strong relationship among each other. This incredible team has done a terrific job in representing the school in the best way. Without any doubt, the team has grown in confidence, ability, and understanding throughout the season. I would say that within the Wapiti soccer team, pride lives and has developed itself, something that the team a feel proud of. Helping the amateur girls transform into players was extremely rewarding for us. The experiences and memories that we gained working with such a great group of girls will stay with us our whole lives. Coming from different parts of the world like Mexico, the United States, the Philippines, and China didn't stop us from building sister-like relationships. Playing our hearts out every practice and having dedicated, encouraging coaches, helped us to achieve our goal- to make it to play-offs. Although we lost in play-offs, we were still I proud because it was the first time since 2005 that the women's varsity basketball team had made it. After having a great winning season, we now look forward to seeing old faces and meeting new ones in our upcoming season. Sadly, we're losing one of our star players Holland Townsend, a player who left everything she had on the court. Thank you all for a great season, and we're very proud of you.
