It was founded by Lloyd Harvey Hatch in 1926. Wassookeag was filled with students who had the potential to succeed, but needed that extra push and caring attention from faculty in order to do so. The students succeeded and moved on to colleges of their choice. In the 1950's the school was moved to Newport, Rhode Island, which meant that the school could have a larger enrollment and better facilities. The school's name was changed to The Hatch School. Financial difficulties occurred and in order to remedy this, the Board of Trustees was reorganized in 1958. Mr. Hatch retired in 1959 and a new headmaster, Mr. Marr, took over the role. The school was then moved to its current location. The school was reestablished in Winchendon, Massachusetts from which it gets the name it still holds today. Once the school moved, the enrollment hit a peak of 154 students. Soon after, the enrollment declined significantly. Mr. Marr then retired and a third headmaster was brought in. It was 1974 when Mr. Posich took over Mr. Marr's position. He turned the school around and enrollment was on the rise. In 1982, Mr. Posich passed away and Mr. Otto took over as acting headmaster for a year and a half before a new full- time headmaster could be found. Mr. Samborski was appointed the new headmaster. He held the position for five years. In 1988 Mr. Samborski left wif wi yeh, ,135 ., the school and Mr. William LaBelle took over as headmaster. In the past four years Mr. LaBelle has made many changes. A gymnasium was built, there was a renewed dedication to faculty excellence, and a total academic change occurred. The result has been a stabilizing of the enrollment. In the years that The Winchendon School has been around, there have been many difficult times, but with the support of people, the school has overcome all obstacles. The school continues to move forward and strive for more. The students Board of Trustees Jon Rotenberg '65 President John J. Newberry, Ir. '33 President Emeritus Barry Jaffe Treasurer D. I also discovered what I can really accomplish. Through my years of being here, I have met a lot of great people, friends that I will have for a long time. Mom and Dad - I don't know how to tell you, how much I love you both. I thank you guys so much for pushing me from the beginning. Only you and I know what I've been through. Craig - Oh wow! I don't know where to begin. It seems like these three years went by so fast. It seems like yesterday when I first met you, and some guy by the name of Danny. We had the life back then, and now that I look back on these past three years, especially our first and second, I realize that I wouldn't have had them any other way. We were always the two with totally different tastes, except for basketball and tennis, but we were still the best of friends. That's what made it so good. We both know which court was my domain, and as much as I hate to say it, no matter who got the award in the winter, the basketball court was your domain. When we part at the end of May, I will always remember the times we shared and the competitiveness between us. I love ya, keep in touch. Shani-qua - You are a dandy! I must admit. After three years of you and Craig, I now want you to tell me what I have told you for three long years, you love him! Shani-qua, I will never forget your caring and your will to argue. I will always remember you and the times we shared. I really do not know what to say, but you know everything I mean. I love ya, keep in touch! Alexis - To the baddest boy in town, as it was in my town. I will never forget that, although you have, well some parts of the trip. I won't forget all the great times. I love ya, keep in touch. Thanks for everything. Yuko - I'm glad we became this close. I will never forget you and all of the fun times we had. I love you very much and I will see you again. Love ya KIT. Mr. Krueger - There will never be another floor in Winch. such as the one we were on in 1988-89. I thank you for everything, Coach. You, Miss Stern, and Mr. 8: Mrs. Marston have been my idols. I love you guys for that. Yasu - You are a Hoosier. Onara. Mr. Kelley- Div. I M.S. - thanks. Ichiro - Orbita! Carlos A. Sz: Carlos I. -I thank you both for the friendship and my nickname. Monroe - I'll see you in another life, be good to yourself. jim and Scott- Thanx for everything, we should have bought a camel. johnny B. - I hope you make it. Chris S. - Chemistry, Voltz. Mike O. - The big o, keep tryin'. To anybody who was offended by the music I listened to, remember me for my music, not for who I was, I'd really like it that way. My life doesn't revolve around music, my music revolves around life. Dave Mustaine,Megadeth No I can not forget from where it is that I come, and I can not forget the people who love me. I can be myself here in a small town and people let you be just who you wanna be. Small Town, Iohn Cougar Ford 2 - 1988-89 - Ya had to be there. Oh how I've waited for you to come, I've been here all alone, now that you've arrived, won't you stay awhile. I promise I won't keep you long, I'll keep you forever. DeadSkinMask,Slayer 18 Ion Bigeau Since I have been at The Winchendon School I have met a lot of people and have seen a lot of people go. To tell you the truth, this year has been a spectacular year :or me. Maybe it is because its my last year at high school, or maybe it is because Jf the students that attended this year. I think it is a little of both. Shani-qua - just remember the great times we had in English class getting our ones, because we didn't BS. Also look back at the time we spent on our weekend in Boston. Where is the money you owe me. o the period F art class, YO MAN!!! nrique and Cindy - Good Luck with your relationship in the future years. Don't let anything come between you two. ve - Hope you get into Harvard. ig Carlos - Don't ditch anyone in the future years. When you go somewhere with someone, stay with them. Ieremy owes us something. ,Wendy and Mandy - Grow up a little, this isn't General Hospital land. To all the seniors, good luck in college and have a successful life. Thank you Mom, for giving me a second chance! Thank you Winchendon School !!! I Shani-qua Bryant First I would like to say thank you to my family. Thank you for all o your support and effort. We lost a few games that we should have won, because they were very close. However, the team still played to the best of their ability and learned to lose with dignity and pride. We started out with the preparation of a game room, which included us having a fund raiser for a new pool table. We listened to the students and tried to carry out as many of their wishes as possible. We fought for better quality food, more comfortable dorms and entertainment facilities. Many of these goals were achieved. 'lx tf... fiiiaf .. f - 'L dv By, Carlos A. Estrella '92 MMM iwlgvfmweswawfawmywzswffzeyfzee we we ft. Yearbook Left to Right E Kihanya T Mena E Dmochowska, D. Creating a year- book involves lots of dedication: pictures must be taken, articles must be written and deadlines must be kept! This however, did not discourage our team, which worked with great enthusiasm to make this a memorable yearbook. One that captures the Win- chendon School atmosphere. by, Eve Dmochowska '92 'abs , 9x'XeSs J . f 3 4, 2'riw , - t f T, ,mm ww Being A Proctor .... Being a proctor isn't the easiest thing that you can be. You have a lot of responsibilities that must be done right, or you'll get yelled at. You have a lot of enemies, even your friends at one point will hate you because of your posi- tion. Being a proctor isn't just having a T.V. and fridge in your room. It's a big step up in responsibility. Sincerely, Carlos A. Estrella '92 I enjoy being a proctor, because of the responsibility involved and the special privileges, such as having a T.V. and fridge. I enjoy having people look up to me as an authority figure. I also like being able to set rules in my dorm and then being able to act upon them. Shani-qua Bryant Being a proctor is troubling, due to the obvious fact that you are also a student. As a student you make friends, as a proctor you sometimes punish them and lose their friendship. As a student you feel at a loss because you did what you had to do. Being a proctor helps you mature and teaches you to handle what is bestowed on you, by those who don't understand. Craig Morris The reason I like being a proctor is because I like the responsibility. There are some bad points though. Since you are a proctor they always want you to be a leader, but people have to remember that you are still a teenager and no one can stop that. Bigeau I can get a single room, even though it's very busy. I can get a refrigerator. Yuki Ever since my first year at The Winchendon School, I knew I wanted to be a proctor. I knew that for my last three years of high school, I would remain at Winchendon. Watching other proctors over the years and seeing the privileges and responsibilities they had, I knew being a proctor would help me get through my senior year. WJ. Barrott CABRON Being a proctor can be a definite growing experience. Being able to accept responsibilities that you never thought you'd be able to deal with is a great feeling. I enjoy every moment of it. Alexis Dawson. Being a proctor for the past year has allowed me to make myself a better person, but best of all are the privileges of having a T.V. and a refrigerator. In a fraction of a second, I spun around and fired exactly where the shot had come from. I heard a satisfying spat and cussing and I knew I had hit my target. I crept through the underbrush, keeping alert for any out of the ordinary noises. All at once I sensed that I had reached my destination. I looked up, grabbed the enemies red flag, and heard a familiar crack. I felt a paint pellet stab me in the back, but I had won, by the slimmest of margins.
