This ' award has been given to Mr. Couhig in gratitude for his continued devotion and support. Mr. Couhig is well respected by students and faculty for his consideration, and cheerful disposition. In every school there is a faculty member whose kindness, warmth and devotion have served as a guide for his students as they move through life. Mr. Couhig fully embodies these traits. His help and support have encour- aged each of us as we reach toward the future. And so we offer this dedication as our way of saying, Thank you, Mr. Couhig! The Board of Trustees at the Winchendon School meets three times a year, Octoberjanuary, and May. However, this year theyv'e met several additional times re- garding the construction of a new gymnasium. It has been approved with a target date for completion at the end of july. The Board also met several times with the representatives of Independent School Management regarding a search for a new headmaster. Several members of the Board are alumni of the school or past parents and have had a long stand- ing association with Winchendon dating as far back as 1960. Our sincere thanks for their many years of service to the Win- chendon School from the class of 1988. 1 Q + 9 Stephen V.A. Samborski , Hmm TGP GP THE LI The Last Good Bye The Winchendon School Ash Street, Winchendon, Massachusetts 01475 Telephone: 617-297-1223 May 21, 1998 Dear Seniors : I know each of you is looking forward to a well earned summer vacation. So much to do and catch up on before you begin the next stage of your educational process! We both share in common the emotion of leaving a school that has had a substantial and positive impact on our respective lives. While we go in different directions, I am sure that at some point in the future our paths will cross. It is my hope and expectation that- at that crossing I shall hear from you a self-assessment of personal success fnot without some setbacksy, achievement Qnot without travailb, and most important- ly, a reflective and thoughtful acknowledgement that much of what you are beginning to become is in no small manner due to those who at Winchendon gave you the opportunity to establish worthy objectives. We will think of you often, and constantly xnaintain our belief that each of you will dare to succeed. S , Step n V.A. The utmost that can be demanded of the gentleman is that he be incapable of a lie. There is a man who has good sense, is well informed, well-read, obliging, cultivated, capable, and has an absolute devotion to truth. He always means what he says, and says what he means, however courteously. You may spit on him- nothing could induce him to spit upon you-no praises, and no possessions, no compulsion of public opinion. You may kick him-he will think it the kick of a brute-but he is not a brute, and will not kick you in return. But neither your knife and pistol, not your gifts and courting will ever make the smallest impression on his vote or wordg for he is the truth's man, and will speak and act the truth until he dies.
