In these times of the rapid growth of the computer industry, there is more and more of a need for people trained in the many aspects of the computer. Every attempt is being made to give as many students as possible a chance to use the seven computers and printer so that they can decide if they are interested in the computer field. Most high school students are not given access to computers and have no idea if they are to play a role in the computer world. In Winchendon's initiation to the computer era, we offer a head start to students who plan to join the rush of scholars attempting to fill the many job opportunities that have been made possible by nur technology. Congratulations, Winchendon, on re- :eiving your computerized telephone and computer de- iartment and showing your versatility in adapting and :hanging with the world's technology. Good luck to all ,he seniors and undergraduates who are going to find .hat computers are now an integral part of life. -it... , i.A,E: .VQV H: N, . .x M 3, 1 . iffy' ,, 4 ,1 'ri 'sg .4 . Shattuck, Chairperson of the Science Depart- ment and Instructor of Biology, for his 18 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Winchendon School. Mr. Shattuck, who came to Winchendon in 1964, has served in the Peace Corps in Chile. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire. He, his wife and their four chil- dren live in a vintage 1700 colonial farmhouse in Jaffrey, New Hampshire. Though both Mr. and Mrs. Shattuck teach full time, they do find time to operate a working farm. We all sincerely appreciate his dedication to us at the Winchendon School and he is to be commended for a job well done. 1 f P' Egg? 1 3 f f2'?'53' ' A V. OTTO2 As the year now comes to an end, The Win- chendon School family would like to thank you for all the time, dedication, and consider- ation you have put into this school year. You have given the school the new beginning we all had hoped for and most importantly, you have guided the school with determina- tion and strength. Now, as you settle back into the old routine of college counselor, master of grammar and Assistant Headmaster, you may reflect on all you have accomplished. Again, we would like to thank you and wish you the best for the future. Affectionately, The Winchendon School family F w? , 'iz I ' .. Q if 4 . You have successfully completed a major undertaking. In a very real sense, you and I have shared in this accomplishment, and I want to thank you for making this year, my year as Acting Headmaster, a very special one for me. As you embark upon different paths, always remember that Winchendon was the place where it all began. There will be many times in the future when you will recall your classmates, your teachers, and others at the school who have made it the caring, supportive institution that it is. I hope that you do so with fondness and gratitude. All of us--you, the entire school community, and I--have grown and developed together. We have, in retrospect, shared many experiences together. Now, as you prepare to go out into the world alone to build upon that which you have achieved here, take with you our concern, our loyalty and our friendship. I think it particularly apropos at this point in my farewell to you to quote Eugene Field: I'm sure goes wrong That's told 'Good-by--God bless youlm no human heart Good-by--God Bless You! I think they will make everybody lazy. They are an expensive substi- tute for labor. Garth Edwards I feel computers are going to run everything. We will be more edu- cated with computers. I think it is stupid because a com- puter does not have human feeling or emotion. Kirk Simonetti I would try it and see what came up. I would like to see how accu- rate the computer is. It should ca- ter to your needs. I would like to see if the girl is right for me to marry. After all, marriage is the main point. Eddie Ross I would not do it seriously but may- be for fun. Jeff Fishman 58 I think it is a good idea, because if somebody is too shy to meet a girl, or vice versa, then it could be help- ful. It can also be bad because if you put your card in, you could come up with some one bad. Arbad Ismail For me, I don't need it. It is for shy people, I am not shy. Carlos Isaza A final resort. Dan Usiskin I don't think I would like it. They could MATCH ME with somebody I wouldn't like. Jimmy Condon 59 In a way I do not think it is a good idea, because you may find that you do not like a person or that there are too many differences about each other that you do not like. If you find that you match with a person and then you meet them in real life, they could have misled you. The relationship prob- ably would not work out anyway. Bob Palmer I like to meet girls in person. Mark McGlmchey Computer dating is beyond my wil- dest dreams. It's a good way to meet people. Jean-Paul Marjollet 60 I would never do it. I want to meet the person I go out with in person. Kim Nelson I would rather meet the person myself. They could lie on the ma- chine. Mark McGlinchey It is okay! I would do it just for the fun of it. I would put my name in just to see what would happen. I know a guy who runs one of those computers. Kurt Schaffner I think it is pretty impersonal. There are too many impersonal re- lationships as it is. Shawn Steinke 61 FFHEEHITI N What are your feelings about vid- eo games? I love them, I do! What can I say! I blow most of my money on them. But any year pro- duces its quantum of sorrow and hope. In 1982 there were the Israeli assault in Lebanon and the first perma- nent artificial-heart implant in Utahg a pastoral island that time had passed by and, offshore, great warships sunk by modern missilesg the imperial pomp for a fallen Soviet leader in Moscow and the remembered glory of a fallen American princess in Monaco. But the year also brought worthy feats. Among them: an overdue tribute to America's Viet Nam dead and an otherworldly crea- ture who captivated the whole world.
