The Junior VarsiTy Soccer Team played a '14 game schedule. This benefiTTed The players because iT maximized Their playing ex- perience. This year's Team seIecTed Robby KiTTay, Carl Schwarzkopf, and Howard Kahn as Their cap- Tains, Carl provided Tough defense aT his sweep- er-back posiTion, and Howard Kahn conTribuTed much enThusiasm and energy from his lefTwing posiTion. Robby KiTTay played numerous posiTions, in- cluding goal keeper, and performed well aT each posiTion. Robby is a freshman aT The Win- chendon School. His undersfanding of The game and skills are well above average for a player his age. The VarsiTy Coaches are looking forward To Robby's reTurn nexT year. Dave Surovec, Ramzi Khoursheed and John LiTTs were upperclassmen who made conTribu- Tions To The Team. John Goodman from Housfon, Texas, playing his firsT season of soccer, showed consisTenT improvemenT. OTher members of The Team were David Young, Russ DuBrow, Ricky Leppo, Tad Green. Todd STuarT, RoberT RupperT, Rich Brame, Eric PeTTy, Howie Morse, and Royce Gage. Andy EdelsTein was The Team Trainer. His assis- Tance was invaluable To Coach Mike Jackson. The first was the over-time game at Brew- . ster Academy, which Winchendon won 2 to 4 in overtime S with a winning goal from John Scott. The following week Winchendon played Gardner High School, whose soccer nets had been stolen. We had to use our men as judges. We lost that game 2 to 4. On October 8, Winchedon played Williston fNorthamp- 'S ton. This was a big game for us because the Willistonf Northampton team has almost 250 boys compared to t Winchendon's 480. The senior team gave Willistonf Northampton a good fight with the 'score 0-0 into the second half, but we lost the game A to 0. Winchendon's next game was at Holderness, in which we won in over- time. This time the winning goal was scored by Sam J Tuten. The soccer team had an extremely rigorus schedule to follow this season, and almost all of our games played away had 'field' problems. The season ended on a high note as the team defeated K.U.A. on their home field with the score of A to 4. This showed the teams best overall group effort for the season. 4 ., ,. ,LM 402 Senior Soccer is , I ., ww , ,, V W M aL1Q. f -M V Q w K SemorSoccer403 Cross-Couniry 1980 Cross-Country Running-Fronl Row: Duncon Grciy, Chris Doyle, Justin Holbrook, Mokolo Onodo, Bill Holl, Trudi Weston, Amondo Cord. As the season progressed, the participants were divided into specific teams and conducted regular practices under the coaches' supervision. At the conclusion of the nine - game schedule, playoff games were held among the four teams. I observed a highly motivated, energetic and determined Team that exhibited Tremendus unity and spirit. The team, as a whole, helped each other with concern, care and mutual support. This supportive attitude was extended To winners and losers alike. Our victory was obviously due to a well - practiced Team in good physical condition. Our wrestlers exhibited a superior knowledge of the fundamentals of wrestling. As this eye witness account suggests, it was an eventful wres- tling season. The team wrestled a very competitive schedule inlcuding Deerfield, Phillips - Andover, Proctor and Tabor, as well as some local high school powers. Improvement was seen in many wrestlers, each with varying degrees of experience. First - year wrestlers Scott Roig, Alfredo Ribelles and Richard Brame Showed very promising imporve- ment. Second - year men Steve Fixx, Sam Tuten and Mike Naughton filled in the necessary bridge between the first - year people and highly experienced wrestlers such as Bill Guttman, Ed Borda and Volker Gallichio. ln fact, these three are representing the school at the National Independent School Championships at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. Both Borda and Gallichio provided wrestling fans with out- standing wrestling. Gallichio scored 39 points against his oppo- nent from KUA and Borda A7 points before a pin in the Third period. This fine effort was indicative of the quality and determi- nation exhibited by all throughout the season. ...-. .:.
