Rodeoing Ropes Students' Interest What types of Willis students are cowboys at heart in a city school? Different types are, but what they all have in com- mon is a liking for rodeos. Some of the school's ro- deoers are Qth graders Kendra Wilson, Shelly Kirkwood and Tawny Reidhead, and 7th graders lvlatt Stevens and Bry- an Adams. Some of the awards that can be won at rodeos are belt buckles, money and saddles, the rodeoers said. They all agree that their par- ents support them a lot in their rodeo activities. Kendra ex- plained that her parents pay her traveling expenses, and entry tees and they transport her to and from the rodeos, which are held at locations all over the state. Money is also a factor in car- ing for the horse or horses that the students ride. For some, rodeos are just a hobby or something to do, but not for Tawny. She exclaimed, Rodeos are my life! Jade said she considers rodeoing as a possible future career. There are a lot of different events to keep a rodeoer busy. Bryan, for example, com- petes in calf raping and team raping. Some ofthe other pop- ular events are ribbon roping and barrel racing. These students compete on many weekends. They are very involved and it takes a lot of time, but they know what they like, and what they like is to rope and to ride: even if Wil- lis isn't a country school any- more.
