n November of 1987, students, teach- ers, and administrators gave of them- selves in order to help people they will never know. Every year the American Red Cross, with the help of Student Government, sponsors a Blood Drive. The annual goal was reached this year with a major contri- bution from the Boro. Ms. Connie Schmidt, Student Government Advisor, helped organize the Blood Drive and reas- sured many students that one does NOT catch the dreaded disease AIDS by donat- ing blood. After the donors checked in at the girlls auxillary gym, each filled out a short ques- tionnaire about his or her medical history. Then a nurse took the blood pressure and a blood sample of the donor. At this point, some people were advised not to give blood for medical reasons. After they gave, donors were offered doughnuts and coffee and also time to sit down and regain their energy. Donors gave more of themselves in for- ty-five minutes than one might imagine. By giving of themselves, they saved lives of people who depend on donors for sur- vival. Below: Velma Maeshack helps apply direct pressure after the procedure.
