Soccer team started to spread their wings to- ward victory as they ended the season on a promising notei Coach Ford, in his second season, kept his team from falling to have them soar where they never thought they would go. This talented team kept with the 'Boro tradition by giving everything they had toward playing their best. Though their losses exceeded their wins, the team has a lot to look for- ward to for next year's team on J.V., and for the players that will make Varsity. Didn't We Almost I-Iave It All9' . . . Whitney Houston The Boys' Varsity Soccer team had a record-breaking season in '87, They finished with 18 wins, the most ever by a soccer team in the school's history. The team became the S.Ji Group Ill State Champs with an overtime-penalty-kick win over C.l-l. West, They also beat Ocean City t2s1l to cap- ture the Coaches Tournament Championship. lt was the first time in the school's history for the team to win either of these championships. Coach Scott Shirk, who was named coach of the year by the B.C.T., guided his team to the Number One ranking in S.J. and to the seventh rank- ing in the state. The team end- ed with an 18-4-1 record. The 'Boro had an outstand- ing season by all of its playersg however, Wray Brown, Geoff Starks, and David Starks played well enough to make first team All-County, and first team All South Jersey. Geoff Starks also made first team All-State, while David Starks made second team All- State. With the remaining players from this year and the prom' ise of the Junior Varsity, the Varsity Soccer team should once again come away with a winning season next year.
