Q J. E. Nancarrow, A.M. Dr. A. M. Weaver Prinripal Superinlemlent of Schools a Q Administration The flood of March 18, 1936 will long be remembered by students, teachers, and parents alike. In the Williamsport High School building such rooms as the band room, the locker rooms, the boiler room, and the gymnasium were completely flooded. On the ground floor the water reached a height of forty-eight inches, and in the cafeteria and kitchen a depth of six feet was recorded. The bright spot in the catastrophe was the spirit with which the students, teachers and parents attacked the problem of reconstruction. Through the co-operation of the entire faculty, the janitors, thirty CCC boys and ten PWA workers, the high school building was cleaned, sterilized, and made habitable within. a period of two weeks. This flood has taught many persons that much damage can be prevented through proper precautionary measures. In the high school, a detailed plan of procedure has been set up for each room which was affected by the flood. The faculty has been organ- ized into groups of four each and each group has been assigned to a specific duty in one of the rooms. These committees will attempt to remove all furniture and fixtures to a higher level. In addition to this precaution, new steel furniture is rapidly replacing wooden desks, cupboards, chairs and tables. We hope that another flood will not visit us but we believe in the motto, Be Prepared. AAAAMH4-gf 10
