1964 Volume XV Published by the Guneukitschik Staff Williamsport High School Williamsport, Maryland Editor: Marilynn Myers Advisor: Mr. John Frost G U N E U K I T S c H I K Foreword The 1963-64 Guneukitschik Staff takes pride in presenting the '64 Guneukitschik to you, the students of Williamsport High. We hope that this yearbook re - fleets your curriculum and extra- curricular activities. The '64 Guneukitschik serves as a bridge: ... to the underclassmen as a vision of their future years at W.H.S.; ... to the Seniors as a re- membrance of their high school days; . . . and to all a record of accomplishments and progress of our school. 2 Contents Dedication Activities Organizations Athletics Seniors Underclassmen Administration Faculty 3 Advertisements IN DEDICA TION November 22, 1963 ACTI VITIE S Take 1 Riverside Park, add 1 bright bonfire, 4 ATTRACTIVE folk singers, a guitar, a banjo, and a big crowd. What have you got? A Hootenanny' And that’s exactly what the students of W.H.S. got. The cold, wintry evening never seemed to phase the group that gathered to listen to the Highlanders, a folk singing quartet from nearby North High. Following an interval of some of the most popular of folk songs, the cheerleading squad took over to lead the entire group in a pep rally. During the pep rally, the new mascot for the school was announced, a Wildcat, Little Richard II. 8 The Highlanders again stepped in front of the bonfire to spark the air with the ringing tones of their folk music. As the bonfire slowly died, and the music came to a stop, the crowd made its way to the high school gym where they com- pleted their evening of fun with a record hop. Everyone seemed to agree that we should have a Hootenanny every Saturday night. 9 The Christmas Dance The Snow Ball, the theme of the annual Christmas Dance, was held on the evening of Decem- ber 21. In keeping with the theme, a gigantic snowman was the focus point of all the decorations. Dancing to the music of the Phil Young Orchestra was enjoyed by all. Adding to the magic of this occasion, was the presenta- tion of the Senior and Junior per- sonalities and the coronation of Mr. W.H.S., Joe Byers, and MissW.H.S., Sandy Holland. It was a memorable event en- joyed by all and forgotten by none. We sincerely hope that this yearbook represents your school: especially to the Seniors, to whom this book must be a lasting tribute to their high school days, for as we send this final page we realize that our high school life as well as this school year will soon be over. Yet, the Underclassmen have much to look forward to, and we hope the '64 Guneukitschik represents your wonderful year of 1964. Marilyn Myers Editor-in-Chief 132 rjfe)
