Welcome to our school! atcculltty crews This year comparatively few changes were made in the Williamsport High School faculty, However we were very happy to welcome four additional members, as well as our own Mr, Spielman who returned to us in December, after having spent six months in the army reserves, Filling the vacancy in the home economics department is Miss Virginia Stanley, who, incidentally, is just beginning her teaching career. A University of Maryland graduate, Miss Stanley is a native of Dayton, Ohio, but currently makes her home in Hagerstown, Maryland, Also a newcomer to our regular faculty listing, but by no means a newcomer to our school is Mrs. Emma Devlin, who has been our regular substitute teacher this past year, She, too, is a graduate of the University of Maryland and lives in Mount Tammany. Serving as assistant teacher in the! vocational agriculture department is Mr. Georg, who divides his time between our school and the South Hagerstown High School. Also an alumnus of the University of Maryland, and a beginning teacher, he makes his home in Hagerstown. Mr. Robert Wantz, a Shepherd College graduate, is also beginning his teaching career with us. He is a native of Hagerstown, Maryland, and spent the past two years in the Navy, Mr, Moore and friend. Eat drink and be merry, I o THIS IPIIVCBIPS Among the unsung heroes of our school are the men who transport students to and nom the school. These men suffer the hardships of the weather, traffic and crowded buses. Bus Drivers - - - We salute you. Mr. Smith, Mr. Waters substituting for Mr. Martin, Mr. Abbott substituting for Mr. Vickers . Mr. Harsh. atnittors Also in the category of unrecognized per- sonnel are those men who pry chewing gum from odd places, and keep our building in excellent shape. These men truly deserve medals for the work they do. Janitors - - - We salute you. Mr. Leatherman, Mr. Shaffer, Mr. Warner. .euifelferiat o1r ikren's Last but not least among our personnel come those ever smiling women who feed our hungry faculty and student body. Even before you entered the building or had gotten close to the field, you could have heard the cheers, the shouts, and the encouragement that our cheerleaders were giving our players this year, The girls seemed to have an endless store of energy which they kept boxed up until a game, and then it literally exploded from them, Never before did the onlookers join in the cheers with such enthusiasm, Our teams can be proud that they have had so much encouragement behind them urging them on to victory, Margaret Weston, a freshman, and a cheerleader for two years, was elected captain for '57 and '58, She has been doing a wonderful job, New cheerleaders for this year are: Connie Crissey, Donna Rohrer, Connie Holland, Betty Kreps, Patsy Coffman, Regina Holland, and Connie Malott, GIRLS ' WINNERS BOYS ' WINNERS P, Coffman, B. Teams making up the Washington County Wrestling League are Williamsport High, North Hagerstown High, South Hagerstown High, and Hancock High School. Other schools in the area are expected to follow in the near future. Here at Williamsport High School, the team has had excellent success for a first year team. Our re- cord at this date is three victories and one defeat, this defeat being our first meet of the season when North High beat us 36-13. Just six weeks later, Williamsport High's determined wrestling squad avenged its only defeat by whipping the North High Hubs 36-13. The highlight of the wrestling season will be the County Tournament held at South High on the seventh and eighth of March. Coach Bob Wantz, to whom the team owes much of its success, has high hopes for the boys in this match. When bachelor Colonel Blair dies, he leaves his dude ranch without an owner, be- cause no will has been found among his effects, Larry Benson, an orphan, adopted by Colonel Blair, declares that the dying man mentioned making a will, Jack Guldy, Ranch Manager, believes there is no will. CaPPY. the Corral Boss, spends most of his time keeping Larry and Jack from fighting. Into this setting of suspicion comes Lettie Blair, the Colonel's niece. If no will is found, Lettie will inherit the ranch, Lettie finds that the Colonel had planned, had he lived, to induce Lettie and Larry to marry. Lettie is shamed by hearing she was to be married off and Larry becomes haughty and aloof, They decide to hate each other, which is unfortunate because they really love each other. Comedy is added to the story by Aunt Lavinia, a typical cowgirl, and Arizona Tom, an old timer who entertains the guest at the ranch. Actually Tom is Tom Wilder, a lawyer, who visits the ranch for a rest, More romance blooms when Emily, a dudine, and Rennie, a cowboy, fall in love, and finally, when Arizona Tom and Tonita Sunrise, an actress of Indian lineage, meet by surprise and carry on a romance that had started when they were acting together Finally, after many accusations, and fights, Cappy produces the Will which states the undivided estate will be left to Larry and Lettie who decide that they really love each other and marry, Thus, as happens in all operettas, all ends well. Come to our Flegta OC The Coronation of Mr, and Miss W,H,S, rf rw f- 1 to T imistfimifats AEELHCCB As we entered the gym and looked around, we could feel the gaiety and excitement of Christmas in the air, Directly in front of us at the far side of the gym was Harvey Gardner and his orchestra, tuning their instruments in preparation for the evening of dancing, To our left in a corner of the gym towered the beautiful Christmas tree, whose colored lights mingled softly with the other decorations. To our right, in another corner was the throne of Mr, and Miss W,H,S, who were to be crowned later in the evening. After looking around we hurried to our table to wait for the dancing to begin, Soon after we were seated, the music began and we were caught in its mood, Toward the middle of the evening the coronation began, The orchestra played our school song and the court, composed of personalities from the Junior and Senior classes advanced to the throne. Finally through the entrance came Mr. W, H,S, , Richard Allen and Miss W,H,S, , Nancy Hockenberry. The students greeted them with much applause, Everyone became quiet as Mr. Carnochan, our principal, placed the crown on Miss W, H, S, and then on Mr, W,H,S, Then, midst cheering, applauding, and the flashes of cameras, the orchestra resumed playing and the court led the dancing, All too soon, the evening came to an end, but we all went home feeling satisfied from a perfect evening and with expectations of the holidays to come, ,. w , , ,, -2955? 1 , ., H, I , 1 .
