In the 1957 edition of the Guneukitschik, we have tried to show that an overwhelming majority of teen-agers participate in clean, wholesome recreation and have accomplished worthwhile deeds. It is our hope that in looking through this yearbook, a new outlook on youth may be obtained. With this in mind the Staff presents to you the 1957 Guneukitschik. B 9.9 I of 9' Q . To those who have taken advantage of this opportunity I give my congratulations. All of us at Williamsport High School should be endeavoring to work toward a common goal: that of providing, or obtaining, as the case may be, the best possible education. My hope is that we have provided you, not only good instruction in subjects, but also many ac- tivities, social and educational, that will help you become a conscientious workman, an understanding parent, a responsible citizen and above all, a truly worthwhile individual. My first year at Williamsport High is the last year for the seniors. I wish them the best of fortune in whatever future endeavor they undertake, 3. W hn L. Lamochan, Jr. Principal MARY E. The graduation exercise was the climax of working and studying together for twelve long years, As we sat listening with pride to our Valedictorian, Connie Cline, and to our Salutatorian, Mary Lou Martin, our hearts were filled with happiness not only because of their achievement but also be- cause of our own achievement. And yet there was a feeling of regret in knowing that we were leaving our Alma Mater. But as each of us received our diploma, our thoughts leaped from the past into the future. After much consideration and debate, the council decided, with the co-operation of the student body, to raise the necessary funds with which to purchase the scoreboard, In the years preceding 1957, the school used a makeshift scoreboard on which the score was recorded by hand. Eewaf We'll never forget nor regret those noisy bus rides, the tiring practices, and the tense moments before each game. We owe much of the credit to our coach, Miss Britner, for the Fieldball Championship, Our last and most exciting game of the season was played with our rival team, Clearspring. The 'upstaters' led in the first half with a score of 2-0. Williamsport tallied four goals during the second half to win the game. This took a lot of co-operation and skillful playing on the part of each member, The Fieldball Championship Trophy was presented to the team captain, Wanda Canfield, and to coach Britner by Mr. Salvadore, President of the Clearspring Lions Club, This trophy is pre- sented each year to the winning team in the county, It must be won three times consecutively to retain permanent possession of it, af' Two polnts for George. They have established a record of 24 straight wins over a period of two years. The excellent coaching of Miss Brimer and the teamwork and co-operation of each individual made possible this excellent record, Patsy Hockenberry set a school record this year scoring 64 points in one game.
