Among these who enrolled at Williams Elementary School were Larry Bingam, Carmen Lugo, Maria Rodriquez, Karen Bowie, Linda Calley, Charles Dean, Steven Lopez, Gloria Garcia, Henry Garcia, Stan Jones, Tom Kite, Christine Luna, Pauline Otero, Sylvia Sutton, Perry Theroux, Toni Walser, and Bruce Willett. Additions to this group were Mary Fowler, James O'Brien and Mike Gardner in the second grade; Pat Chapman in the third grade; Eddie Mosier and Jimmy Eddy in the fourth grade; Rickey Wright in the fifth grade. During our Jr. High years we were joined by Ronald Docherty and David McDonald during the seventh grade and John Wyatt and Eddie Brown in the eighth grade. Our class moved into the junior high building after Christmas vacation. We put on the Pirates of Penzance as our eighth grade operetta. Our graduation was held in the high school gym. In 1958, we began our four years in Williams High. We added two more people to our class--Georgia Canty and Paul Larmour. Our Freshman class officers were; President, Linda Calley; Vice-President, Larry Benham; Secretary-Treasurer, Judy Moore; Student Council Representative, Toni Walser. Our class sponsor was Miss Dotson. Cookie Willett and Perry Theroux lettered in football. Cookie also lettered in baseball and Karen Bowie was chosen as Pom-pon girl. We started our Sophomore year with three more members in our class—Sal Con-chola, Pat Patterson, and Emmett Wester. Our class officers for this year were: President, Sylvia Sutton; Vice-President, Karen Bowie; Secretary-Treasurer, Linda Calley; Student Council Representative, Toni Walser. Our class sponsor was Mr. Hengl. As sophomores we had outstanding representatives on the varsity basketball team. Cookie Willett was selected the season's outstanding player and Eddie Brown was selected as the season's most improved player. Karen Bowie was elected cheerleader. Toni Walser was selected twirler in the Drum and Bugle Corps. Pat Chapman was voted Best Dancer. We started our first year as upperclassmen with the addition of John Knipps, Kay Dodd, and James Jones. Our class officers were; Paul Larmour, President; Cookie Willett, Vice-President; Emmett Wester, Secretary-Treasurer; Ronald Docherty, Student Council Representative. Our class sponsor was Mrs. Palmer. Karen Bowie was selected head cheerleader. Pat Chapman was also elected cheerleader. Christine Luna, Kay Dodd, and Toni Walser were chosen as Pom-pon girls for basketball season. Pat Chapman and Emmett Wester were voted Best Dancers. Cookie Willett and Larry Benham were selected as Boys' State Delegates. Our class play, which was a comedy entitled Jeepers Creepers, was a great success. As co-sponsors of the Junior-Senior Prom, we helped choose and decorate for the theme of Neptune's Kingdom. Our Junior attendants were Toni Walser and Jimmy Eddy. Our Senior Year has started off with a bang! We have gained several new classmates, Jan Ison, Nancy Dusek, Howard Peterson, Elsie Walker, and Diane Bisbee. Our class officers are; President, Emmett Wester; Vice-President, Toni Walser; Secretary-Treasurer, Georgia Canty; and Student Council Representative, Paul Larmour. Our class sponsor is Miss Higham. Pat Chapman was elected head cheerleader, and Karen Bowie was also elected cheerleader. Toni Walser was chosen Twirler. Our Homecoming Royalty were; Queen, Pat Chapman; attendants, Linda Calley and Toni Walser; and Emmett Wester, King. Our class presented a very fine and serious play, Our Town. 15 Senior Class Prophecy The U. S. S. Senior Class was awarded the honor of being the most outstanding cruiser ever to sail from America. Ronald Docherty, New York's famous Journalist, is covering the story for the SATURDAY EVENING POST. The head of our famous ship is Captain John Wyatt and wife Linda. Bruce Willet, the head steward, introduces his fellow stewards who are John Knipps, Jimmy Eddy, and Salvador Canchola to Mr. Docherty. Bruce then directs the reporter toward the engine room. Here he meets Tom Kite, engineer, and fel- -low workers, Stan and James Jones. Pat Patterson, recreational chairman, is responsible for introducing Mr. Docherty to the rest of the crew. She begins with the physicians, Mary Fowler and Karen Bowie. Next to be visited are the beauticians, Kay Dodd and Janet Ison. The barber is Henry Garcia and manicurist is Toni Walser. Those who were responsible for the fixing and serving of the divine meals consisted of: Larry Benham, chef; Emmet Wester, second chef; and waitresses. Carmen Lugo, Diane Bisbee, Pauline Otero, and Gloria Garcia. The trip's great pleasure was due largely to the recreational facilities and exhibitions which were at the fingertips of each passenger. The tourists were thrilled by the exhibition of tennis skill exhibited by James O'Brien and Eddie Mosier, world renoun table tennis champs. At the same time the patient shuffle-board instructor was fast approaching her wit’s end trying to teach Sylvia Sutton and David McDonald the game. Nancy Dusek is currently engaged in a losing game of tennis with Elsie Walker. Mary Rodriquez and Christine Luna are trying to learn how to swim from the instructor, Pat Chapman. In the bar, Mr. Docherty has just been served a fabulous concoction by the current bartender, Perry Theroux. The evening is made more pleasurable by the harmonious sounds erupting from the ship's luxurious ballroom. The marvelous orchestra consists of; Mike Gardner, director; Paul Larmour playing the stereo-micro-atomic triangle; Charlie Dean beating on his wild and savage skins; Steven Lopez playing his boogie woogie rag time piano; Howard Peterson picking on his old banjo. In the vocal department we have that fabulous, stupendous, idiotic Richard Wright. As the time marches on we see the ship drop below the kirk, below the hill, below the lighthouse top. She sits at 440 South 7th, Williams, overlooking the busy town. Sitting there she spreads her skirt in all directions. The football field is a great basket she has put down as she sits viewing the town. Her voice is that of two hundred voices; her face is that of two hundred faces . . . her personality is that of two hundred personalities. She is awakened each morning as her alarm goes off at 8:00 and as the bus students arrive. Then at 4;30, as the last light is snapped off, and the last teacher has passed through her doors once more, she is at rest. In the winter she is robed in white with the pattern of many feet imprinted across her skirt. She is the spring fever of a student who wanders slowly to his first class minutes after the tardy bell has sounded. In the summer she sits and watches as her students work and play in the busy town below. In the fall she greets old friends, and observes new faces in the sea of familiar old ones. The football, basketball, track, tennis, and baseball teams are her sons, the cheerleaders and drill teams are her daughters. With them she rejoices as the game is won, or is filled with determination and revenge when the game is lost. She is the flaming beauty of the Homecoming bonfire, and the smile upon the face of the blissful queen as she is presented with roses, scepter, robe, and a glittering crown is placed upon her head. She is the anxiety of exam time. She grows tense as the cards are passed out, remembering the hours of study, the lack of sleep (you bet!!), and how much she depends on the results of the grades that have been earned. She is the silhouette of two people dancing to the rhythm of soft music at the Junior-Senior Prom. At the same time she is a group of eager young freshmen hovering near the door trying to get a glimpse of the new Student Body President immediately after election. She is a freshman on the first day of school, rushing down the hall trying to find a room number. She is the proud young sophomore rushing to help meet the Tusayan deadline. She is the dazed Junior gazing down at the new ring on her finger. She is a respected senior robed in white, stepping forward to receive her diploma, a new lease on life.
