CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1956, sixty-five freshmen, to be known as the Class of I960, entered Williams High School. We entertained the honor (?) of being the last freshman class initiated by the sophomores. Our class officers were: Pat Brinias, President; Opal Mayes, Vice-President; Susan Collins, Secretary; Mickey Glassburn, Treasurer; and Jerry Calley, Freshman Representative. We finished a fine year as freshmen with a picnic at Oak Creek. Our sophomore year began with the election of new class officers, as follows: Opal Mayes, President; Jerry Calley, Vice-President; Allen Grantham, Secretary; Corky Asher, Treasurer; and Fred Hoffmeyer, Sophomore Representative. Our class was active in extracurricular activities this year, with Opal Mayes as cheerleader and Social Manager, Carol Flohr and Rose Marie Wirth as twirlers, and five sophomores as pom-pom girls, in addition to the many athletes who lettered in sports and the many sophomores who were members of clubs and organizations. In January we became the first sophomore class to attend the new Williams High School. We ended the year with our traditional Oak Creek picnic. 1958 saw us as upperclassmen, atlast. Our class officer s this year were: Fred Hoffmeyer, President; Robert Runyan, Vice-President; Opal Mayes, Secretary; Kay Lebsch, Treasurer; and Pat Brinias, Junior Representative. We were well-represented on the Student Council this year; Jerry Calley was Vice-President and Opal Mayes, Social Manager. Opal and Pat were cheerleaders, and four juniors were pom-pom girls. Carol Flohr became head majorette of the Drum Bugle Corps, with Dixie Cole and Kay Lebsch as twirlers, Pat Brinias, Opal Mayes, Roger Strickland, and Jerry Calley were our Girls' andBoys' State representatives. Once again, the boys of the junior class played an outstanding part in the athletic activities of WHS. In December, we presented our junior play, Bolts and Nuts, which was a smashing success. May saw us collaborating with the seniors for the Junior-Senior Prom, to which we contributed Pat and Jerry as attendants. School was out at last, and we carried on our class custom with an Oak Creek picnic. September, 1959-we are proud seniors! Our last and most glorious year began with the election of class officers: Fred Hoffmeyer, President; Mickey Glassburn, Vice-President; Martha Harp, Secretary; Kay Lebsch, Treasurer; and Jerry Calley, Senior Representative. Seniors dominated the Student Council this year; Pat Brinias was President; Susan Collins, Secretary-Treasurer; and Opal Mayes, Social Manager. Opal, Pat, and Roberta were cheerleaders; Carol Flohr was again head majorette of the D B Corps, with Kay Lebsch as a twirler; Susan Collins, Karen Packer, and Virginia Cooley were pom-pom girls; Martha Harp was chosen as D.A.R. Best Citizen; Kay was Miss Football and Opal, Miss Basketball; and Pat Brinias and Brad Henderson were Homecoming Oueen and King. Six seniors were charter members of Williams High's first National Honor Society, Senior football all-stars were many this year. Corky Asher, Tony Lugo, and Fred Hoffmeyer were named to the All-Northern Second Team; Jerry Calley and Kenneth Mosier to the All-Northern First Team. In addition, Jerry was given All-State Honorable Mention and Fred was voted to the All-State Second Team. Eleven of this year's fourteen favorites were seniors. Five girls monopolized the oratorical contest this year. Pat Brinias, Susan Collins, Barbara Patterson, Kay Lebsch, and Caryl Kielhorn gave their orations, with Pat emerging as the proud winner. In March, the senior class presented Our Hearts Were Young and Gay, a lively and humorous play. The Junior-Senior Prom in May was our last big event until May 25, when we gathered for graduation. Seventeen seniors had completed grades one through twelve in the Williams schools; Jimmy Bowie, Pat Brinias, Jerry Calley, Dixie Cole, Louisa Garcia, Larry Halbert, Martha Harp, Fred Hoffmeyer, Wanda Johnson, Roberta Kennedy, Caryl Kielhorn, John Lopez, Tony Lugo, Donna Matson, Opal Mayes, Virginia Rojo, and Gloria Sanchez. We left Williams High, at once misty-eyed and happy, full of memories of our wonderful school years.
