Class Prophecy This is Glenna Blevins speaking, better known to the newsworld as Waltera Cornkite. The year is 1990, and a lot has happened since that fateful day when the Class of 1958 was graduated. The Russians have conquered all of Europe and all of the Western Hemisphere, save the United States and Canada. The two countries are in mortal combat, using hydrogen bombs and the like. The people are all hurrying into rocketships to leave the earth before it is blown to bits. A large rocket in Arizona is about to blast-off, let's join them and see if there is anyone aboard we know. The take-off was rather shaky, but now the people are quieting down. Over in the far corner I see Kay Grantham and her fiance quietly talking. (Yes, they are still engaged.) Sitting next to her is Kenneth Harwood, wiping the atomic fall-out off of his cowboy boots. A doctor and two nurses are mingling among the ship’s occupants, trying to soothe the frazzled nerves. Yes, now I can tell who it is. It is Dr. Jerry McCamly and his assistants, Jean Aikins and Paulette Stokan. At the moment, they are trying to help Esther Lugo and Pat Mecham with their children. I count at least ten children trying to sit on the laps of the two women. In the back of the ship, Jack Dunn and Buddy Garcia are painting pictures of the ship's blast. Near them, Manuel Lugo is jumping up and down screaming something— I can’t quite make it out—it sounds like 'Chuggy, Chuggy’??? I think he is jumping on Betty Strange's foot for she keeps turning red, white, and blue. Joanne Azcuenega is sitting on an orange crate reading Plato, while Jim Pettit is sitting by. to help her with the hard words. There are many famous people on the ship. Here comes Hermin La German. Another Marilyn Monroe. I just love her chartreuse hair. These new pastel hair shades are different anyway! Perhaps you know Miss La German better as Hermenia Griego. She has really gone far in her acting career. Just behind her, stands Mrs. Neoma Kennedy Whitecart our first woman President. It is too bad that she had to retire after only six terms. Talking to Mrs. Whitecart is Carolina Bartlett the new singing sensation of 1990. Have you heard her new record, 'Rock Around the Moon’ ? The ship's co-pilot, Albert Sanchez, is going into the control room. In here, I see Fred Tuller and Felix Gabaldon working at the radio. Fred is trying to talk to Professor John Hayden back on earth, but is having trouble since someone in Paris is trying to call Vice-President Mike McNelly in Washington. At the control panel sits such great scientists as Rom Asher, Jim Miller, Dr. John Jones and Dr. Jessie Chapman (Oh, yes, she is the First Woman Scientist of 1990) and by her, sits Dr. Stanley Yoakum. Behind them, stands Jim Walker the ship's captain. He has grown to 6’7”. WOW! Out on the ship's hull I see Betty Hancock and Mike Martin doing The Outer Space Bop. It seems some people just have to rocket and roll. Floyde Willett is out there changing the records for them. I understand that he is constructing a State highway to the moon. We wish him luck. We have landed, so this is Waltera Cornkite signing off. Bye.”
