thung he notuced was that Mary Lous nose lut up and flashed luke a beacon Thus affluctuon came from workung too many years at shaped luke a cone close an assocuatuon Lloyd was about was slapped un the the Beacon Cafe Ellens head was wuth a curl on top caused by too wuth her work un the Daury Queen ready to guve hus order when he face wuth a uuucy steak He lumped out of hus chaur and looked unto the unnocent eyes of Lynne Coffee who had rapped hum to get even for the many tumes she had to show steaks whule workung at the Steak House un Wulluams Thus experuence un the dunung room took away Moreys appetute and he left the dunung hall and fell over some one on hus hands and knees eatung grass un front of the dunung hall lt was poor old Dan Bunney He had been teased so much about hus name he funally thought he was a rabbut Shortly after leavung the dunung hall Morey came Upon a small group of people havung a vuolent argument He recognuzed Pat Lebsch Ruchard Muranda Tony Corona Johnnue Martunez and Raymond Lugo Morey funally fugured out that Pat was tryung to teach the boys how to speak Spanush wuth a Japanese accent They were tryung to teach Pat how to talk a language that nobody had fugured out yet All the boys had gone screwy tryung to learn to speak Spanush out of a book whule un hugh school Pat had gone out of her head one day when she found a parrot that could speak the Japanese language better than she could The Superuntendent told Morey that the unstututuon had a theater and asked Lloyd uf he would luke to see ut Thus appealed to Lloyd so they entered the theater and there at the door were two luttle old ladues whom Morey realuzed were Jean Cox and Charlotte Juarez They were screamung that they were only twelve years old and wanted to get unto the show for half pruce The cashuer was Margaret Orosco and the usher was Dorothy Fer nandez Both of the latter were yellung that Jean and Charlotte were awfully small but they were more than twelve years old Morey knew then that Jean and Charlotte had popped theur corks because they couldnt get over beung so tuny and Dorothy and Margaret had tulted theur bonnets over kuds tryung to lue theur way unto the show for half pruce As they left the theater they passed a closed door wuth a sugn DARK ROOM Lloyd asked about ut and the Superuntendent told hum that George Montoya fancued humself as a famous photographer but he had one peculuar quurk he dudnt ever leave the dark room It was gettung late un the day by now and the Superun tendent told Lloyd they were a long way from the offuce so he whustled up a taxu ln a few seconds a 1931 Ford Coupe skudded to a stop The druver was Frank Proctor and on the way back to the offuce the Superuntendent explauned to Lloyd that Frank had trued to organuze a taxu servuce after he got out of hugh school but tryung to use a Ford Coupe as a taxu funally drove hum to the nut house The Superuntendent and Morey clumbed out of the taxu and Lloyd was ummeduately Iassoed and thrown to the ground In nothung flat he was tued and branded He funally wuggled around and saw Raynelle Reed grunnung down at hum She had roped hum and when the Super untendent yelled at her she pumped on her stuck horse and galloped away Just as they were about to enter the buuldung some body bounced a rock off Moreys head When he came to Pat Stamp was uumpung up and down yellung My rock that hut hum and he saud so Well saud the Superun tendent the furst week Pat moved here from Calufornua ut snowed and shes been nuts about snow ever sunce Funally Morey got unto the offuce of the Superuntendent Lloyd set down to relax when the door burst open and Della Porter rushed un wuth a pad and a pencul lntervuew mel Intervuew mel she crued The Superuntendent had Della removed and explauned that Della had untervuewed so many people durung her lufe as a reporter that she funally got her wures crossed and had to be put away Well saud the Superuntendent lets have a coke and The munute Morey heard the work coke he lumped up screamung threw humself on the floor and started chewung the rug The Superuntendent funally had poor old Lloyd placed un a straught uacket and put away Morey had sold so many cokes at the hugh school foot ball games he funally cracked up when he heard the work COKE' By KATHLEEN KING and DORIS DUFFIELD , . 66444 PM ln the year 2005 Dr Q E D Zombie Superuntendent of the Arizona State Nut Crackers Suite at Twenty fourth and Van Buren un Phoenux Arizona was unter vuewung an applucant for a uob as guard Mr Morey the Superintendent saud to the applu cant dudnt you tell me that you graduated from Wulluams Hugh School back un l955'7 Mr Morey said he guessed that was the place but ut had been so long ago he wasnt quite sure Well went on the Superintendent l have t been checkung the case records of the unmates of thus booby hatch and ut seems quite peculuar to me that there are 35 unmates here who graduated from the same school un the same year and here you are perfectly sane to all outward appearances tryung to get a uob takung care of them' so he saud Well boss lets tour thus crack shack and look these characters over and perhaps I can renew old acquaun tances Thus seemed luke a good udea to the Super so he and Morey set out on their tour As they left the offuce they bumped unto Kim Kung who was marching up and down the hall and screaming hysterically She was suxty eught years old and nutty as a fruut cake She thought she was stull the mauorette of the Wulluams Hugh Drum and Bugle Corps Farther down the hall they found Wayne Thompson pushung a scooter and beung pursued by John Wagoner un a wheel barrow The wheel barrow was being wheeled by Harry Mackay There are three sad cases said the Super Thompson thunks hes druvung the fastest car un the world Wagoner thunks hes a speed cop druvung a V 8 and Mackay thunks he s a V 8 engine' Thus amused Morey no end Going out unto the yard Morey recognized Opal Means Molly Berger and Hope Muer playung softball They dudnt have a ball or a bat' Umpurung the game was Ladell Lovutt He was unvolved un a butter argument wuth Opa about the l t putch beung a ball All four had cracked theur saucers over softball and baseball About that tume Morey spotted Allyn Cureton workung un the garden He was busuly sprayung the plants wuth an insect sprayer There was nothung un the sprayer and there were no plants un sught Peculuar case said the Super He went nuts tryung to cross a uackrabbut wuth a tractor As the two men left Allyn they turned toward the athletuc fueld and Lloyd saw Arthur Garcua Leroy Canty and Bull Fuller playung football After hugh school they had perfected a play known as the Canty Specual but all three of them went off theur rockers when Canty ran down a gopher hole by mustake and made a touchdown for the opponents Morey walked up to Fuller and asked why Paul Payne and Gulbert Munoz were not playung un the game Fuller lust pounted to the grandstand where Morey found Paul and Gulbert talkung to each other about the great number of unuurues they had suffered whule tryung to convunce the doctors that they were not hurt By thus tume both Morey and the Superuntendent were tured and hungry and they went to the dunung hall to have lunch Fuve wautresses were on duty and Morey soon realuzed that the one playung the flute whule balanc ung a tray on her nose was Dorus Duffueld He also spotted another tryung to fund a tup under each of the tables and knew ut was Gladys Glasscock who had flupped her lud over money As he sat down he felt a tap on hus shoulder and looked up to see Mary Lou Ballard and Ellen Amberg srnulung down at hum The furst , . n u - ' 'F ' ' ' - , H V I . , I .. , . . . - H I ' I - b ' l as ' ' .
