ln the fall of 1951 46 eager and frughtened freshmen enrolled un Wulluams Hugh School Class offucers were chosen as follows Gulbert Munoz Presudent Hope Muer Secretary Dorus Duffueld Treasurer and Molly Berger Student Councul Representatuve After beung offucually welcomed unto the school wuth unutuatuon by the sopho mores we settled down to our furst year of hugh school lufe ln October we sponsored the annual Halloween party Our furst year of hugh school was closed un May wuth a pucnuc at Oak Creek Canyon at whuch we were hosts to the sophomores We began our sophomore year un 1952 wuth 44 members un our class We had lost Mary Martunez Joe Guundazola Charlotte Cawker Bobby Rocha Bull Ensugn Celua Martunez and Bull Watkuns Our class was uouned thus year by Gladys Glasscock Frank Proctor Mary Lou Ballard Loren Muller and John Covungton We elected the followung to class offuces Gulbert Munoz Presudent Bull Fuller Vuce Presudent Dorus Duffueld Secretary Treas urer and Wayne Thompson Student Councul Representa tuve Fufteen of the sophomore gurls were members of the drum and bugle corps wuth Kum Kung and Mary Lou Ballard as twurlers Lynne Coffee and Dorus Duffueld were elected cheerleaders by the student body Durung thus year Gulbert Munoz was chosen All Tournament for the second team un Junuor Varsuty basketball W school We ended our second year of hugh school as the guests of the freshman class at a pucnuc at Oak Creek Canyon ln 1953 we began our furst year as upperclassmen wuth a class of 40 uunuors That year we were uouned by Harry Mackay but we lost Dennus Bockelman Pat Lebsch Ruchard Pena Loren Muller and Anuta Gabaldon Gulbert Munoz was agaun chosen Presudent of our class Bull Fuller Vuce Presudent Dorus Duffueld Secretary Treas urer and DeLous Rea Student Councul Representatuve Dorus Duffueld was elected to serve as head cheerleader for the year Wayne Thompson was elected Student Councul Vuce Presudent ln the electuon of favorutes Molly Berger was chosen as Best All Round Gurl We had 13 gurls un drum and bugle wuth Kurru Kung as head twurler and DeLous Rea and Mary Lou Ballard as twurlers In May we louned the senuor class un guvung the Junuor Senuor Prom wuth the theme of Hawauuan Sunset Paul Payne and Vlolly Berger were chosen as attendants to the queen and kung at the Prom In football Wayne Thompson was All Northern second team Gulbert Munoz was Alu Northern second team un basketball Representatuves to Gurls State were Dorus Duffueld and Kum Kung representatuves to Boys State were Paul Payne and Gulbert Munoz In March we presented a very successful play Tamung the Brat We closed our uunuor year by beung hosts to the senuors at a pucnuc un Oak Creek Wwfafzq ln 1954 we began our funal year at WHS wuth 36 senuors un our class We started the year off by electung class offucers Gulbert Munoz was elected President for the fourth year Other offucers were Wayne Thompson Vuce Presudent Bull Fuller SecretaryTreasurer Molly Berger Treasurer and Leroy Canty Student Councul Representa tuve We had three senuors as student councul offucers wuth Harry Mackay as Presudent Kum Kung as Socual Manager and Mary Lou Ballard Secretary Treasurer Kum Kung was mauorette for drum and bugle There were 12 senuor members un the corps wuth Mary Lou Ballard as head twurler Hope Muer and Della Porter head drummers and Opal Means head bugler Other drummers were Charlotte Juarez Gladys Glasscock and Jean Cox Pat Lebsch played the bell Lyres and Molly Berger Ellen Amberg and Dorothy Fernandez were buglers Lynne Coffee and Dorus Duffueld were elected cheerleaders A number of senuors were chosen as favorutes thus year Molly Berger was chosen Best All Around Gurl Mary Lou Ballard was chosen Most Popular Gurl Wayne Thompson was chosen Most Popular Boy John Wagoner was chosen Best Lookung Boy and Gulbert Munoz was chosen Best AllAround Boy Molly Berger was elected Muss Basketball and Opal Means was elected Muss Football by the uunuor class ln football Wayne Thompson was named All Northern furst strung and Harry Mackay and Leroy Canty were guven honorable mentuon on the All Northern teams Durung our senuor year we lost fuve members of our class Laura Armstrong John Covungton Joe Crockett Bobby Whute and DeLous Rea Pat Lebsch returned to our school for her sensor year Pat Stamp also uouned us transferrung from Calufornua at the begunnung of the last semester In November we presented our senuor play he Inner Wully one of the most successful plays ever presented In May we uouned the uunuor class and held the Junuor Senuor Prom Gulbert Munoz and Lynne Coffee were chosen Kung and Queen of the Prom Our senuor year ended wuth Baccalaureate on May 22 and Commencement on May 29 The day after com mencement the uunuors took us on a pucnuc to Oak Creek Canyon Of the 36 senuors who graduated thus year 17 t tended school un Wulluams from the furst grade through the twelfth These 17 students are Paul Payne Jean Cox Dorothy Fernandez Raymond Lugo Dan Bunny George Montoya Charlotte Juarez Tony Corona Dorus Duffueld Margaret Orozco Della Porter Ruchard Muranda Gulbert Munoz Allyn Cureton Bull Fuller Arthur 66444 PM ln the year 2005 Dr Q E D Zombie Superuntendent of the Arizona State Nut Crackers Suite at Twenty fourth and Van Buren un Phoenux Arizona was unter vuewung an applucant for a uob as guard Mr Morey the Superintendent saud to the applu cant dudnt you tell me that you graduated from Wulluams Hugh School back un l955'7 Mr Morey said he guessed that was the place but ut had been so long ago he wasnt quite sure Well went on the Superintendent l have t been checkung the case records of the unmates of thus booby hatch and ut seems quite peculuar to me that there are 35 unmates here who graduated from the same school un the same year and here you are perfectly sane to all outward appearances tryung to get a uob takung care of them' so he saud Well boss lets tour thus crack shack and look these characters over and perhaps I can renew old acquaun tances Thus seemed luke a good udea to the Super so he and Morey set out on their tour As they left the offuce they bumped unto Kim Kung who was marching up and down the hall and screaming hysterically She was suxty eught years old and nutty as a fruut cake She thought she was stull the mauorette of the Wulluams Hugh Drum and Bugle Corps Farther down the hall they found Wayne Thompson pushung a scooter and beung pursued by John Wagoner un a wheel barrow The wheel barrow was being wheeled by Harry Mackay There are three sad cases said the Super Thompson thunks hes druvung the fastest car un the world Wagoner thunks hes a speed cop druvung a V 8 and Mackay thunks he s a V 8 engine' Thus amused Morey no end Going out unto the yard Morey recognized Opal Means Molly Berger and Hope Muer playung softball They dudnt have a ball or a bat' Umpurung the game was Ladell Lovutt He was unvolved un a butter argument wuth Opa about the l t putch beung a ball All four had cracked theur saucers over softball and baseball About that tume Morey spotted Allyn Cureton workung un the garden He was busuly sprayung the plants wuth an insect sprayer There was nothung un the sprayer and there were no plants un sught Peculuar case said the Super He went nuts tryung to cross a uackrabbut wuth a tractor As the two men left Allyn they turned toward the athletuc fueld and Lloyd saw Arthur Garcua Leroy Canty and Bull Fuller playung football After hugh school they had perfected a play known as the Canty Specual but all three of them went off theur rockers when Canty ran down a gopher hole by mustake and made a touchdown for the opponents Morey walked up to Fuller and asked why Paul Payne and Gulbert Munoz were not playung un the game Fuller lust pounted to the grandstand where Morey found Paul and Gulbert talkung to each other about the great number of unuurues they had suffered whule tryung to convunce the doctors that they were not hurt By thus tume both Morey and the Superuntendent were tured and hungry and they went to the dunung hall to have lunch Fuve wautresses were on duty and Morey soon realuzed that the one playung the flute whule balanc ung a tray on her nose was Dorus Duffueld He also spotted another tryung to fund a tup under each of the tables and knew ut was Gladys Glasscock who had flupped her lud over money As he sat down he felt a tap on hus shoulder and looked up to see Mary Lou Ballard and Ellen Amberg srnulung down at hum The furst , . n u - ' 'F ' ' ' - , H V I . , I .. , . . . - H I ' I - b ' l as ' ' .
