flaws, Pfw In the year 2009 I ret1red from my mxsslonary work and moved to Under ground C1ty In order to have somethmg to keep my m1nd occupled I be came a SOC13l worker Fortunately wh1le I was workmg I learned that all of mv classmates of the Wxlllams Hlgh School class of 53 were l1v1ng 1n Underground Cxty I dec1ded one morn1ng to locate all my old classmates and fmd out what they were domg Therefore one Sunday mornxng I Roberta Mu1rhead re txred m1ss1onary and part t1me soclal worker started on my quest Underground C1ty IS the largest cxty under the world and was deslgned by former archltect John V1ck I say former arch1tect because I found John 1n the looney b1n whlle I was dolng some of my soclal work He was sxttmg 1n a corner playmg w1th some blocks He had used so much braxn power ln deslgnlng th1S great c1ty that he had no sense left when he com pleted h1s Job Rlght m the m1ddle of Underground C1ty IS a c1rcus wh1ch puts on contlnuous performances The government ordered th1S form of entertaxn ment to help keep the morale of the 1nhab1tants h1gh because we had been engaged 1n an atom1c war for the past ten years I dec1ded to v1s1t the c1rcus because I was qu1te sure I would fmd a large number of my classmates engaged IH some act1v1ty not related to actual work The cxrcus sounded l1ke just the place to f1nd them I soon reached the center of town and as I drew near the ma1n tent my attent1on was attracted by a huge tank of seals performmg for a large and enthuslastlc audlence A b1g slgn proc1a1med to all that BARTLES TRAINED SEALS PERFORM DAILY I was anxlous to see Duane but I had trouble f1nd1ng h1m unt1l I notxced one of the seals wearlng a hat Then I reahzed that lt wasnt a seal after all xt was Duane' Bartle was one of the mam attractlons because he competed Wlth the seals 1n catch1ng the flsh thrown by the tra1ner The tra1ner looked famxhar and when she looked at me and smlled I recogn1zed Marlene Olson She stopped feedmg the seals long enough to tell me that although Bartle owned the seals she got the Job of traxmng them after Bartle falled because the seals were smarter than he After leav1ng the seals I entered the dance pav1l1on where I found W1l11e Whxtakers Crow P1ck1ng Orchestra swxngxng and swaylng Hls orchestra featured such sensatlonal musrcmans as clarlnet play er Carollna Garcla saxaphonxst Rudy Santana and banjo player J1m Rea I also found Paul Carl satlsfylng h1s urge to hug somethmg by sequeezmg an accordlon 1n W11116S band The theme song of thelr orchestra was Ill Get You Yet You Stmker You . 1 ' . , , . . . , . . . ., , - v n w v ' - Y h - - xc sy - , . 1 1 . . . . . . - U , n - ' 7 . . , . On the dance floor of the p3.V1llOI'1 I saw the spot l1ght pxck up Judy Tlssaw and her ballet partner Jlm Frederlck The1r act was most unusual because Jlm balanced a loaf of bread on h1s nose wh1le dolng the ballet Thelr act was followed by those famous Kadoodle Klckers Bob Sandoval and Marxe Barnett At the same t1me another dance team known as the Kadxddle Hoppers came 1nto the spot l1ght 1n competxtxon w1th Bob and Mar1e The Kad1ddle Hoppers were made up of Tony Munoz and Stella Lopez As I left the dance pav1l1on and contmued on my way to the mam tent of the c1rcus I was Jomed by Robert Gardner who spoke to me but con t1nually kept looklng upward I was cur1ous and he told me he was the head alrplane spotter for Underground C1ty Th1s seemed rather peculxar to me because there are no a1rplanes underground When I mentloned the fact he gave me an annoyed look and lt was then that I reallzed that Robert was the same as when I knew h1m back IH 53 always domg somethlng to keep from go1ng to work A loud raucous vo1ce attracted my attentlon and I strolled toward a s1de show where I found Burl Srmth on a platform yellxng and wav1ng an old battered straw hat 1n the d1rect1on of three hula glrls The hula glrls were all from our class Jeanxe Plumber Betty Bunney and Marxe Garcxa I fmally reached the ma1n tent and found two men tak1ng t1ckets and play1ng checkers Smce they d1dnt even look up when I offered my tlcket, I yelled at them D1Ck1E Way who was one of the players had a s1x foot Whlte beard for the slmple reason that he was too lazy to shave Hxs asslst ant was Sammy Martmez They both sald Hello told me to go 1nto the mam tent and 1mmed1ately resumed thelr checker game Just as I was about to enter the tent I heard a loud commotlon The no1se was so great that It xnterrupted the checker game I turned to see Sandra Schnell w1th 12 l1ttle boys aged 1 through 12 dressed 1n sa11or su1ts She recogmzed me and brought the l1ttle boys over to me explalmng that she brought her 12 youngest boys to the c1rcus once a week and thxs was the day She went on to say that she had 12 more but they were all 1n the Navy Fred Av1la came bouncmg up about that tlme and scared the wxts out of Sandra s 12 l1ttle boys who scattered 1n all dxrectxons wlnle Sandra tr1ed to catch them I dxdn t recognlze Fred 1n h1s clown su1t and h1s grease palnt but he spoke to me and sold me some peanuts Fred was glad to see me and walked 1nto the b1g tent Wlth me The show was under way and the flrst performer I saw was Jeanette Donovan and her tralned zebras She had a very unxque act for the zebras chased a mouse wh1le Jeanette r1d1ng bareback on a kangaroo chased the zebras . . . . 7 , .
