THE TUSAYAN SENIOR CLASS HISTORY When the class of 1945 registered into Williams High School for our first year, we were thrilled at just being freshmen. Our class con- sisted of forty-nine members. One of our activities, which made us feel more important than ever, was our first class meeting. At thismeet- ing we had election of officers. Those elected were Mary Jaime, pres- dentg Paul Luna, vice-president, no secretary-treasurer was elected that year. Next came initiation. Now we were full-fledged members of WHS. Our first social function was a Hallowe'en dance in honor of the sophomores. Many of our girls were active in the Drum and Bugle Corps. This year the operetta, An Old Spanish Custom was presented and also a Minstrel show in which many of the freshmen took part. The school year ended with the Freshmen-Sophomore pic- nic at McLellan Dam. Our sophomore year started out with new officers. Billy Lilly, presidentg Mary Martinez, vice-president, Mary Matson, secretary- treasurer. Like all sophomores we had the pleasure of initiating the freshmen, and we made the most of this opportunity. We held a dance that evening to welcome the freshmen to WHS. There were many new students who joined us this year: Bud Parrish, Lavonna Tiller, Betty Jo Simms, Rose Dougall, Jean Cravey, Connie Davis and Barbara Stone. Billy'Lilly, Dick Gonzales, Paul Farmer and Bill Dye took part in foot- ball and basket ball. We closed our sophomore year, looking forward to our junior year when we would at last become upper classmen. Officers elected during our junior year were Carolyn Byrd, presi- dentg Jeanne McDowell, vice-presidentg Dick Gonzales. secretary- treasurer. This year we gained four new students: Marilyn Tissaw, Vernon Fetterman, Roberta York and George Gruette. Arnulfo Luna left during the sophomore year but returned his junior year. The junior play, Brother Goose, was presented and was a huge success. Next was the Junior Prom which was enjoyed by all who attended- Three of our boys entered the service: Bill Lilly, Bill Nagiller and Bud Parrish. Our junior year was brought to a conclusion by the Junior- Senior picnic at Oak Creek. All who were able to go, enjoyed them- selves immensely. Our senior year began and we were all excited. At last we were on the top and felt superior to the lower classes. Officers elected were Bill Dye, presidentg Bobby Benson, vice-president, Mary Matson, sec- retary-treasurer. This year there are only twenty seniors. Many of our former students have gone to other schools. We took part in many more activities than ever before. The sextette is made up of all senior girls. They are Jeanne McDowell, Bella Bustamante, Aurora Balderas, Carolyn Byrd, Isabell Fernandez and Arcelia Cruz. Some of our mem- bers are in the swing band, which is a very successful organization. The Thespian play, The Patterson Dinner, was an all senior cast. All the girls were active in Drum and Bugle Corps and Pep Squad. Bella Bustamante was majorette and Elsie Larson, Jeanne McDowell and CContinued on Page Twelvej l 1 1
